KFFL, Aug 19 - Randy Covitz, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Larry Johnson and the team remain at a stalemate over his demands for a new contract. He is working out on his own in Arizona. If his hold out were to continue into the season, he would have to return for at least five games to receive an accredited season, which would allow him to void the final two years of his contract and he would become an unrestricted free agent following the year.
And from an AP story, Aug 19 re: Priest...
"But with general manager Carl Peterson out of town -- reportedly attending to negotiations with holdout running back Larry Johnson, Holmes' status remained the same."
Nothing new, but in the spirit of glass half full, the report that Peterson might be attending negotiations sounds better than Peterson being back in KC doing nothing about this holdout.
It's been said in many other threads, but I think both sides know this needs to get done. KC has no offense without LJ and LJ runs the risk of getting hit with the franchise tag next year, among other downsides to a contract not getting done now.
