He's just a lazy bum. He sees an opportunity to sit out practice and take it easy for a couple of weeks and he's taking it. Reading the NY papers it doesn't seem like Coughlin is worried at all. He just knows he can't rip players as much this year for fear of losing this team from game 1....if he hasn't already.
that may have changedALBANY, Aug. 17 — Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress will not play in Sunday’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens because of an ankle sprain, and one of his backups, Sinorice Moss, could also miss the game with the same injury.
Burress has not practiced since Aug. 2, and Moss sat out Friday’s workout, which was the last extended practice before the game Sunday.
Coach Tom Coughlin said the team would wait until Saturday before making a decision on Moss’s availability. Moss, a 2006 second-round pick, missed all of last season’s training camp and 10 regular-season games with an injured quad muscle.
Burress’s absence continues to be a source of concern for Coughlin because he wants his first-string receivers to work with Eli Manning in the preseason.
“We need the timing work of having Amani and having Plaxico with Jeremy and the quarterback and with the runners, that type of thing,” Coughlin said earlier this week of Amani Toomer, Burress and tight end Jeremy Shockey. “So that’s where I think we’re a little behind, in our timing.”
Burress also missed much of the Giants’ off-season conditioning program when he could have been catching passes from Manning. But Burress has played down the significance of missing practice time or the need to work on the timing between quarterback and receiver.
“I know what to do at the right time,” Burress said Tuesday. “Timing has never been an issue with me.”
Toomer agreed with Coughlin while still supporting Burress’s position.
“Plaxico has played together with Eli quite a lot, so I’m sure it won’t take too long to get things back,” Toomer said. “But the coach is right. It’s definitely important to be out there.”
