Any potential stat changes from this past weekend? (1 Viewer)

In our scoring format D's get -5 after giving up 28 pts and another -5 for a total of -10 at 35 pts. Now I'm not saying the Pitt D will give up that many points but it may not be worth the risk unless there are some potential stat changes that would affect the score in the next couple of days.

Can anyone recall any weird plays from this weekend that might screw me should I choose to bench the D?

If your rules allow it and your lineup is not considered illegal and this is a common practice in your league, then by all means do it. Don't worry about what anyone here says. They don't play in your league. On the other hand, if this isn't normal to your league and you're forging new ground, you need to seriously consider how your actions will be perceived. Based on the matchup, I don't think it's worth jeopardizing your status in the league.

Guys I appreciate the advice and I understand your opinion that this might be a bush league maneuver. But this league has been around for nearly ten years now and during that time this tactic has been used at least a handful of times. These guys are all blood thirsty fantasy nuts who deem anything within the yahoo rules to be within the acceptable realm. Any one of the them would easily do the same if they thought it would be in their best interest.

If you had said that in the first place, I doubt any of the soapboxers would be criticizing you. Trash your league as being bush, maybe. It's tough to think of weird plays without knowing your respective lineups. Just check the gamebooks on NFL.com and then bench away.

I am assuimng that your league gives points for sacks and turnovers. Even if Baltimore were score 28 points with a rookie QB and suspect OL, I would be shocked if the Steelers did not do enough to counter act what points that the Ravens scored. Otherwise, "play the game to win." as opposed to not lose a pretty small lead. IMO,it is more probable that Pittsburgh puts up double digit fantasy points than Baltimore scores 28.

:coffee: Do you really think that Joe Flacco is coming to Pittsburgh on Monday night and putting up 28 points? Seriously?

I played in a league one year where the commish went a little crazy with some rules changes, deciding that it would be a good idea to penalize kickers an equal amount for misses (4 points for making a 40-yarder, but -4 for missing one). I started a BYE week kicker every week and outscored my opponent half the time.

Brilliant! Most kickers miss more than they make, right?

It was also -2 for missed XPs. Kickers were averaging around 6 points per game in a league where the average score was 175. The roster spot was better used elsewhere.

Interesting topic. I'm leading by less than a point and I have the Baltimore defense. I was considering not starting the Baltimore D because it is a Yahoo league and I could lose up to 4 points if they give up over 34 points. Actually, if they give up over 21 points I will lose 1 point. Hopefully they get one sack or turnover so I don't have to sweat it out.

if you are winning, bench the defense. especially if there is no payout for highest points or you think you don't have a chance.

win at all costs.

What D are you going to replace them with? In any league I've ever played in for money, you have to pick a D if it's a starting requirement and you wouldn't be able to bench a defense on Monday night unless you have another D that's on bye week, and if that's the case that's pretty fortunate. It's not Bush league in any way. Guys who have 2 RB's on Monday to select from wait until game time to choose. Go back to last week when LT was dinged up, this board was littered with opinions on who to start between LT and Sproles if you had both of them to choose from.Odds are you're safe either way but if you want to play it safe, but in a bye week defense. Keep in mind any point total regulations whether it be for the week or even end of the year as most likely, you're giving up points in benching Pittsburgh's D for the safe play.
