My daughter has taken a few classes on web design and has designed a few sites already. She is going to college next year studying Web and database design... If you want to fire off some questions I can ask her today when she gets home.Monday morning bump. Even if you're not interested I do have some questions for those in the field.
I don't design em, I just make em workThanks @AAABatteries I design them, but i don't code them (that's a whole other talent I can't comprehend).
let me know if I can help or offer advice.
The president of the foundation asked me to help them find a web designer to refresh the website. What they have now is very out of date. What exactly are you trying to do?
What does that website do?The president of the foundation asked me to help them find a web designer to refresh the website. What they have now is very out of date.
Just provides useful links, information, protocol for people about the genetic condition. They are not happy with the original designers. I don't know the whole background but I may be joining the board as treasurer so I said Id help. What does that website do?
Who originally designed it? Can't you find them?
If you have access to the files it's extremely easy to just update the content.Just provides useful links, information, protocol for people about the genetic condition. Extremely easy for who? None of us are webs designers. They want to change the whole design of the website (add dropdowns, change color scheme, etc.) not just change content. If you have access to the files it's extremely easy to just update the content.

Thanks, I know they are separate things. I am going to suggest they move to Dreamhost or bluehost. They should do that before the redesign?domain purchase and hosting are 2 different tings. I suggest having them move to a Word Press server for the new site. If you build the site on a WP platform, it makes it sure simple for the organization to update it and change content. Plus it has a huge selection of pre-built plug-ins for functions like calendars, chatting, and other functions.
my bad...IDK if is needed. I think you do run the risk of messing something up on the site, but I would suggest setting up the new server as the "Testing" server and then when you flip the switch on the new site, the old one and its hosting just gets turned off. But I would want @Keerock to add his expertise from the dev sideThanks, I know they are separate things. I am going to suggest they move to Dreamhost or bluehost. Agreed WP is the way to go. Would need a host that supports... I'm sure register.com does if it's hosted there. But the idea to build out a new site on a different host is a good one so it can be tested while the current one stays up... then just flip the DNS switch when ready to cut over.my bad...IDK if is needed. Can they keep domain name?Agreed WP is the way to go. Would need a host that supports... I'm sure register.com does if it's hosted there.
