No way they give up that game.Favre = ratings.Game scheduled is Minnesota at Carolina. Any word whether they're flexing this out? I know they love Favre and Peterson, but ... gotta be a game between two teams fighing for a playoff spot, right?
today's clt observer noted it has not been flexed out of primetime.

charlotte observer.and we could be seeing bengals at chargers instead. perfect time to use flex. bengals get no prime time games because everyone thought they'd suck. but they don't, and that's a competitive game.today's clt observer noted it has not been flexed out of primetime.![]()
BINGO...plus Fox had a decent game they were considering flexing out but FOX protected it also(GB@PIT I think)...no better options I read...Can't find the article but I read it somewhere on Yahoo that they are sticking with this game. I think CBS held the rights to the Bengals/Chargers game, that is why that didn't get moved.

Wow,Not much to choose from there. What a terrible week of games to choose from. I suppose SF Philly could have playoff implications if SF wins Moday night againt AZ. SF doesn't have the marquee QB in favre. As we all know its not about playoff match-ups, its about what will make people tune in. #4 makes people tune in.Potential choices they had to pick from (without the 2 protected) instead of Minn vs CarolinaNE at BuffSF at PhilMia at TenHou at StLAtl at JetsChi at BaltClev at KCAriz at DetOak at DenTB at Sea-QG
Yeah, a 6-7 SF barely clinging to playoff hopes wouldn't have that much of a tune-in factor.Plus isn't there a limit to the number of prime time and/or SNF games a team can have in a season? Eagles will have been on SNF 3 times as of this week (plus 1 MNF) and I think that NBC is probably looking at the week 17 game with the Cowboys as a flex, so they probably would rather hold that in their pocket.Wow,Not much to choose from there. Probably right as for a limit, but I don't see any way that FOX didn't protect that Boys-Eagles game. If it is a 4PM kickoff like last year, I would assume its their feature game.Yeah, a 6-7 SF barely clinging to playoff hopes wouldn't have that much of a tune-in factor.Plus isn't there a limit to the number of prime time and/or SNF games a team can have in a season? The protection option might be gone for week 17. I'm not 100% sure.Kinda had my heart set of watching some Cleveland-Kansas City actionProbably right as for a limit, but I don't see any way that FOX didn't protect that Boys-Eagles game. -QGCould also be 5-8 at 6-7.Favre and ADP was sort of a safe choice in terms of marquee players.Going through the list again:NE at Buff No way. Plus not sure how many times NE has been on already.SF at Phil This really is the same situation as Carolina/Minnesota and Favre brings more eyeballs. Plus the Dallas-Philly angle noted above.Mia at Ten If both lose this week you have 6-7 vs 5-8. Not appealing.Hou at StL Uh, no.Atl at Jets This would seem to be the other logical choice, but again it could well be 6-7 vs 7-6 with neither team in a set playoff place.Chi at Balt The Ravens don't have marquee players and this again is another case of 6-7 vs 7-6 - except that's the BEST case scenario.Clev at KC AFC Draftniks would love this, I guess. Ariz at Det Arizona's just about done with that division, so nothing compelling there.Oak at Den Raiders are toast, like a worse version of Carolina-MinnesotaTB at Sea NFC Draftniks would love this, I guess. So there you go. Favre wins by defaultWhy not Tenn @ Mia. Could be a game where they're fighting for a playoff spot.

Over the last few years, the NFL has been very aggressive about moving game times in Week 17 to minimize opportunities for tanking. If you have a situation where Team A is eliminated from the playoffs if Team B wins, then they'll make sure that Team B doesn't play before Team A. They don't want Team A to know that they're already eliminated before kickoff -- it's bad for ratings and leads to teams benching lots of starters. For example, in Week 17 this year, Bal@Oak and KC@Den are scheduled for 4, while Pitt@Miami and Jax@Cleveland are 1 p.m. games. If it turns out that Jacksonville can elimimate Baltimore and clinch the Wild Card by beating Cleveland, I think they would move that game from 1 to 4, to avoid a situation where Baltimore takes the field in Oakland minutes after being eliminated from the playoffs.
But then you wouldn't get to the Gunslinger, just out there having a great time, trying to make plays. Isn't that what America wants?I may not represent the masses but I would watch SF/Phi over MN/Car
I want to see that in Wrangler ads, not football games!!But then you wouldn't get to the Gunslinger, just out there having a great time, trying to make plays. Isn't that what America wants?I may not represent the masses but I would watch SF/Phi over MN/Car
As an Eagles fan, I would love to see a situation where Dallas needs a win to get in and Philly already has the division wrapped up (even with a loss to DAL in this game). I still predict that the Eagles will take it to Dallas. I probably won't be the bloodbath it was last year when the winner or this game got in the playoffs and the loser was eliminated (greatest Eagles regular season win I can remember --- for me at least). That said, I think the PHI/DAL game in week 17 stands a great chance to being flexed.Over the last few years, the NFL has been very aggressive about moving game times in Week 17 to minimize opportunities for tanking. Looking at the Week 17 sked, there are plenty of good primetime candidates: NYG@Minn, Pitt@Miami, Phil@Dallas.
Hopefully the Giants win out and the Dallas-Philly game is for the last WC spot :(Playing around with the yahoo simulator and looking at the selection of "default" choices they give you (e.g. Yahoo Rank, Home Team, Points Scored, Points Against) etc, pretty much every scenario make the Dallas-Philadelphia game impactful on the playoff race. My favorite nutty scenario is one where it would work that:If Dallas won, they'd win the division, Philly would be out, Giants get wild card.If Philly won, they'd win the division, Dallas would be out, Giants get wild card.If they TIE, Dallas wins division, Philly gets wildcard, Giants would be out. That'd be kinda funBut the least meaningful scenario would have this game decide who gets home field in a playoff game between the two the following week. Some cases have one of them already in, but the other team needing the game to get in.I'd put the odds that this is your flex game at about 98%.-QG
Hmm. What are the chances they flex Saints@Panthers week17, if the saints are 15-0? Brother flying in for the game, and flying back out sunday night, that would really screw things up.Over the last few years, the NFL has been very aggressive about moving game times in Week 17 to minimize opportunities for tanking. Big game this week on Sunday night.
