Any word on whether or not Clinton Portis practiced? (1 Viewer)

I scanned the first two pages and didn't see any Portis threads. I guess everyone is too concerned with Steve Smith's injury today.

Just wondering if he practiced today.

Thanks for any help.

From Sportsline:

Clinton Portis, RB WAS

News: Clinton Portis made it through the entire practice Wednesday for the first time since his shoulder injury and appears set to return at running back for Sunday's game against the Texans. He is listed as probable on the injury report. Portis partially dislocated his left shoulder in the preseason opener Aug. 13. He played a relief role in the regular season opener against Minnesota on Sept. 11, even though he had been limited in practice. He carried 10 times for 39 yards against the Vikings, but he jammed the rotator cuff in the same shoulder and missed last week's game against Dallas. "Clinton looked good. He took the whole practice, felt good," coach Joe Gibbs said. "I think we're OK there."

Analysis: Great news for Portis' owners! Not only is he expected to play, but he should rumble over a Texans defense that has played pretty poorly so far this season. Expect a great game from Portis in Week 3 and definitely start him at this point.

Redskins: Portis practices, listed as probable

The News

Redskins running back Clinton Portis practiced on Wednesday. He missed all of last week's session and the week two game against the Cowboys due to soreness in his left shoulder. "Clinton looked good. He played the whole practice. I think we're okay there," head coach Joe Gibbs told the team's official web site. Portis is listed as probable for Sunday's game in Houston.

Our View

Portis previously stated that he'd be good to go for week three, and this news confirms that claim. Provided Clinton has no setbacks in the coming days, he should be a good fantasy start against the Texans.

So help me if I start him over Dunn and he gets hurt or plays "limited action" again......
I wouldn't bench a money player like Dunn over a question mark. I would make Portis show me first even despite the good matchup.

I somewhat I agree obviously depending on what your roster looks like and what your week 3 fantasy matchup looks like. If you are playing against one of the stronger teams in your league you may want to take the "risk" with Portis 'cause you may need a lot of points. If your fantasy matchup is against one of the weaker teams, go with Dunn and his consistency. What I worry about with Atlanta is that they've shown some great offensive strength for the first two weeks...there's a lot of film that's been reviewed by a lot of NFL teams...is this the week they get stuffed?Portis definitely has the matchup advantage and by all indications, he is ready to rumble. I can imagine that Gibbs is tired of losing and will probably use his greatest weapon.

Redskins | Portis participates in full practice

(KFFL) Updating a previous report, Howard Bryant, of the Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis (shoulder) participated in his first full practice Wednesday, Sept. 20, and did not experience any lingering effects of his injured left shoulder suffered during the preseason. "Clinton Portis had a very good day today. No problems, no complaints," said Redskins director of sports medicine Bubba Tyer, who said Portis would be listed as probable. "He did everything, even took a couple of hits and did fine. It's the most he's done since the injury, practice-wise."

Skins should have left him out week 1 so they could have him vs the Cowboys. <_<

I'm wondering whether he couldn't have played both games. My impression now, given that he's seems to be practicing without any limitations now, is that they may have gotten overly cautious with him this past week vs. the Cowboys.

Washington Post beat writer Jason La Canfora's last blog entry from a few minutes ago:

Portis was practicing fully during the portion of drills we get to see. Everyone seems in agreement that he will play a big role in Houston and is ready to go.

Open Locker Room

Clinton Portis (RB, #26)

On how hard it was to not play last Sunday:

“It was hard but when you believe in your teammate’s and think they are going to go out there and get the job done, you are going to give them all the encouragement in the world. That is what I tried to do instead of pouting. I knew since last Wednesday that I was not going to play in that game. Instead of having them feel sorry for me I tired to instill confidence in them that they could do it without me. Unfortunately we did not get it done. I am back and I think guys are looking forward to it.”

On the soreness he felt in his shoulder last week:

“The soreness is going to come. That was the first time I took any shots in four weeks. That is like coming back to camp having not run or anything. When you come back to camp you are going to have some tweaks and that is what it was. Everybody was a little worried about that and that is the reason I was off last week. This week I don’t expect it to hamper me.”

On what he has done in practice:

“Yesterday I was just trying to show them there is nothing wrong. I was trying to fly around and get confidence in them to not worry about me re-injuring myself and not being able to do things. Yesterday I went to practice with no harness on me. I took a couple of shots and I ended up ok.”

On if last week he was messing with the media’s minds, the Cowboys or both in regards to whether he was playing or not:

“If I tell ya’ll then you were going to tell the Cowboys. There is no need to give them an advantage and have them not prepare for me. I had to keep that to myself. I still held out hope that coach might change his mind and slide me in.”

On what the Texans can expect from him this week:

“A healthy Clinton Portis. They can expect a full throttle Portis. There are not set backs and there are not limited plays for me. They are going to do one thing for me and then something else for Ladell (Betts, RB, #46) and them. I am a part of the game plan.”

On if he thinks Texans coach Gary Kubiak knows what to expect:

“Coach Kubiak knows what I am capable of. He was the play caller when I was in Denver. We go back a long way. I am sure he has been telling his team that I will probably be playing.”

On if he is excited with Coach Gibbs saying that he wants them to run the ball more:

“That is going to open up the offense. Our offense starts with the running game. It is going to open up the passing game. It is going to get us in third and short instead of third and eight and third and long. If they give you the opportunity to carry your team on your back, you want to do it, hurt shoulder or not I want to do that.”

150 total yards and 2 TDs.
:goodposting:
You keep doing that and I'm going to start calling you "TO". :lmao:
I love me some dgreen.

He is gonna have a huge year. All those people that got him late 1st or early 2nd round, talk about hitting the jackpot. :)

Portis reportedly said the reason he didn't score on the shovel pass is that he didn't want to go to the center of the field and risk taking an open-field shot on the shoulder, which is questionable since he went to the sideline and still got taken down. In any event, the shoulder is still having some kind of impact on him, even if it's more mental than physical at this point.

Oh, and the current Portis Percentage Watch is 103% (per Portis).

I think that Portis should go to a color coding system on his status, kind of like the Terror Alerts. Right now we're at a Portis Readiness Level of "Yellow".
