Anybody Else Play In A Playoff Re-Draft League? (1 Viewer)

I play in a league that plays through all 17 weeks of the regular season and then those that make the playoffs re-draft for each round of the playoffs.

I wont go into all the details but basically we get to enjoy the entire regular season. Then we have 3 division winners and 3 wildcard winners. The top 2 teams get a bye in the 1st round of the playoffs and the bottom 4 teams re-draft for the games in the 1st round. Then the winners of that round play the next 2 weeks of the playoffs against the 2 top seeds. The top seeds get an extra 50 point advantage ( we play in a very high scoring league) for the 2 weeks plus they get to draft 1st. So, you take the combined scores for the next 2 weeks of the playoffs and the 50 point advantage for the top 2 seeds and add them together and then you have your Superbowl teams. Then there is no point advantage in the superbowl. The top seed drafts 1st. Then you play the game.

So, at the end of the season we have a banquet, drinks, awards, etc.

Does anyone else play in a league that does all of this?

Wow, nobody?

Ok, lets change the question to - Who would like to play in a league like this?

No, but usually about 4 or 5 of us in my league each year draft a starting lineup only from playoff teams after week 17 is over. Points accumulate each week, and if any of your players get knocked out of the playoffs, youre without them the rest of the way. Highest point total thru the Superbowl wins.

Strategy plays a big part of the draft. You gotta decide on whether or not you want too many players who have a 1st round bye, and you wanna pick guys on team with good offenses, but at the same time, you want guys who have a shot to make it the furthest.

It gives us all something to root for (FF wise) thru the post season.

One league I am in does something similar, but you are allowed to keep players on your roster from the regular season for the playoffs. If you keep a player, then you use him as your draft pick. Redraft happens each week. Its my first year and I think its kind of stupid, but whatever, its something to do.

Actually...my 2nd largest money league is a similar format.

The 4 playoff teams keep any playoff players on their roster that they want to keep and then redraft filling out of roster of 3 QB, 6RB, 6WR, 3TE, 3K, and 3ST/D. Thats the roster for the ENTIRE playoffs so there are a couple pros and cons. filling your roster with "likely" playoff players during the season is a very good thing if you have a good team. And guessing correctly on who will go the farthest in the playoffs can pay huge dividends.

I don't "prefer" the format...but it's different and interesting.

I have in some years. Auction drafts work great for them due to the limited pool of players and probably not as many teams.

Another thing we used to do with them is experiment with different scoring rules and such. Better to find out someone's hair brained idea doesn't work well in a short playoff league than a full season of pain... :-)

that's similar to mine. it's odd... but leagues that are in the Stone Age and still base their league championship on a week 16 H2H is arcane, if not laughable.

Very interesting to me that you would keep players and then draft to fill in the remaining in roster in some of these other leagues. Its seems more fair for everyone to re-draft.

I my league the higher seeds in the playoffs always get the higher pick in the re-draft. So, you only get the advantage if you worked for it.

Its also surprising to me that more fantasy football players wouldnt want to play the ENTIRE season of football & have your championship game played during the real Super Bowl. I think it sucks to start the playoffs during week 14. I like the fact that right now I have a 3 game lead in my division but I still have to fight for 4 more games to make sure I get the 1st round bye in the playoffs & win my division.

We do this exact same thing. I love this draft - you really have to become a bit of a prognosticator.
