looks like NATO lost one. Russia's submarine with the posieden weapon system. It disappeared from the Russian artic harbor. Please let NATO if you see it.

Apparently the missle/torpedo travel to the bottom of the ocean along the shoreline. it's designed to make 1000ft high tsunami. can we get this Ukraine Russia conflict over please Mr. Biden?

I enjoy how Russia struggles with basic ground logistics, but also has secret doomsday super weapons on submarines that can avoid detection.
it's a problem if the only thing they can do is blow up the world and can't be effective in any other way.

I think on paper this submarine is scarier than the reality of the situation. I also don't see Russia starting WWIII here.

the scariest thing is that they can leave without NATO knowing.

Are we sure someone just didn't misplace their Submarine Sandwich?

We typically don't know a submarine or ship has deployed until we see an updated satellite image. Most bases are imaged multiple times a day, so we see the movement within 6-24 hours the majority of the time. Typically it's not a concern until they leave territorial water.

P-8s are a newish and very capable sub hunting platform. I'm pretty sure we still fly them out of Iceland and Japan. The UK and Norway both have several as well. If it becomes a priority, I think they would be able to track it down.

This is Russia's new toy for sure, it just isn't ready for prime time yet. 5 years from now it might be the scariest platform out there.

Interesting question - what country would start WWIII if it took place in the next 90 days?

Is there any question here? Russia invaded a nation, is now getting their asses handed to them, and is lead by a single lunatic with total control.

Sorry but Russia has lost all benefit of the doubt. If their submarine is gone it probably sunk in some accident. And lol at some kind of tsunami weapon. Most of their population lives in poverty, they are getting pushed around by Ukraine, and we're supposed to think they have some super high tech weapon?

Nope.

No one is starting WW3. That doesnt mean the media wont promote the idea.

Ultimately the only language these guys understand is violence. Giving them an "out" only emboldens them to keep doing the same.

Similar to the schoolyard bully.

I agree. But I don't feel like he is cornered. Maybe more upset that someone blew up his pipeline.

Crazy that Biden and Nodland both saw that coming months ago.

I think we let Ukraine figure it out with their bolstered military budget.

Americans dont have an appetite for this one.

What cost is appropriate? 100 billion? A trillion? US lives?

This isn't our war, but can sure crush our economy.

I have no idea what cost is appropriate. But it is our war in that if we allow Putin to just invade an ally like this then he will just do it again. Ukraine seems very capable of drawing this out and forcing Putin to retreat, but that would not happen without our financial and weaponry assistance

The investment to stop Russia is worth it. He wasn't stopping if he just took over Ukraine IMO.

From a pure politics standpoint if Biden tomorrow says we will stop all support, we allow Russia to have at it I have feeling many of the appease Russia folks will suddenly change their tunes.

Ukraine now has a top 5 national defense budget. I don't know how much higher we can make them.

Pretty sure the sub was towed away by a farmer with a tractor.

There are no perfect soultions here. Putin caused this all so we are not driving the situation. I think very few would argue that war is the desired outcome.

I do support all we can to deter Putin and Russia from taking Ukraine. I don't know what the right amount of pressure (and dollars) that is but whatever we are doing is working so I'd go with that. Biden and State Dept etc have done very well here in my view.

In terms of putting our troops in there, I wouldn't have done this and would continue to stick with that with the current circumstances.

Pretty dark to acknowledge...but our military is, I assume, gaining a ton of invaluable intel from this real world scenario. The stuff we are sending over there is getting rebuilt at some time as well not to give a hooray to this but the people's whose jobs those are love that.

He's going to get murdered by his own people soon. Or imprisoned. It's coming. The sense his weakness, smell his blood in the water.

People? No
Endless dollars? No

I don't think we are anywhere near either sending our troops or sending money indefinitely.
do you know how much $$$ we have sent already?
50-60 billion with another 12 B proposed?
This seems like a bargain. Added countries to NATO. Exposed Russia. Jeff Bezos could have funded this so far.

I agree to some extent that there is no perfect solution, but this is on Biden and co to figure out their policy. To me it looks like we are willing to fund an endless war and I'm not good with that.

I'm not good sending our troops there, and dont think that is on the horizon. However Putin is ramping up his nuclear rhetoric and I have no idea what Biden is going to do. Does he?

This whole thread is over the idea that a nuclear asset just departed port and it's not crazy to think Putin blames the US for the nordstream explosion.

We have handled this very well in my view up to this. I'd stick with the team making the calls right now.

I don't think we blew up the pipelines.
Putin believes NATO/western interests did and he might be on to something with that. NATO claims any infrastructure retaliation will be a declaration of war. So I guess we shall see where this goes.

Interesting question - what country would start WWIII if it took place in the next 90 days?
Is there any question here? Russia invaded a nation, is now getting their asses handed to them, and is lead by a single lunatic with total control.
backing putin farther and farther into a corner isn't a great idea.
So you we tell Ukraine to let him win? What does this entail?
I think we let Ukraine figure it out with their bolstered military budget.

Americans dont have an appetite for this one.
What that the US is doing now should we stop doing in your view?
Funding an endless war? We should absolutely stop.
And let Russia take over Ukraine? Odd take
What cost is appropriate? 100 billion? A trillion? US lives?

This isn't our war, but can sure crush our economy.

And I'm curious where your line is? Are you willing to provoke a nuclear response? US bloodshed?

I'm just not. Sorry. I'm not in favor of dumping 10s of billion of dollars into this war effort every time we pass a bill.

If Putin did it he knows who did it

Both sides have crossed so many red lines drawn by the other side they really don’t mean anything at this point.

Hopefully someone takes out Vlad from his home team. That’s the best case scenario to start from,

Nope.
you don't think they have nukes? lol my goodness.
