anybody see a submarine (1 Viewer)

Would you be willing to send our people over to help or just endless dollars?
People? No
Endless dollars? No

I don't think we are anywhere near either sending our troops or sending money indefinitely.
do you know how much $$$ we have sent already?
50-60 billion with another 12 B proposed?

The Biden administration announced another $625 million military aid package for Ukraine on Tuesday, bringing the U.S. commitment to more than $16.8 billion since Russia invaded the country in late February.

That's just 16.8 B in military aid. There are large humanitarian and economic aid numbers as well.

Four Ways to Understand the $54 Billion in U.S. Spending on Ukraine

By Bianca Pallaro and Alicia ParlapianoMay 20, 2022
The more than $40 billion in additional aid to Ukraine approved by Congress on Thursday brings the total U.S. commitment during the Russian invasion to roughly $54 billion, when combined with the aid package passed in March.

Putin believes NATO/western interests did and he might be on to something with that. NATO claims any infrastructure retaliation will be a declaration of war. So I guess we shall see where this goes.
Putin doesn't believe they did...he claims they did. It seems almost certain it was him doing this so he can play these types of games.

Where are you getting this conspiracy theory from? Russia intentionally hurts their own infrastructure to justify what exactly?

The US has been open about ending this pipeline and has openly celebrated what an amazing strategic opportunity this is for us.

I believe there is a whole thread about this. As well as this...

Seems there is more stuff like that linking Russia doing it to put more pressure on things...as well as play the blame game with the West to gain sympathy for himself...far more than any connection to the US doing this.

Ending the pipeline...as discussed the entire thread dedicated to this topic...was already pretty much done between sanctions and other pressures. He was discussing Nord 2 with that...which sat abandoned since the invasion.

I enjoy how Russia struggles with basic ground logistics, but also has secret doomsday super weapons on submarines that can avoid detection.

Someone stole the script for the next Bond movie.

it's a problem if the only thing they can do is blow up the world and can't be effective in any other way.
I think on paper this submarine is scarier than the reality of the situation. I also don't see Russia starting WWIII here.

I we sure someone just didn't misplace their Submarine Sandwich?
This is Russia's new toy for sure, it just isn't ready for prime time yet. 5 years from now it might be the scariest platform out there.

Honestly I think this is trumped up by our military complex.

Interesting question - what country would start WWIII if it took place in the next 90 days?
Is there any question here? Russia invaded a nation, is now getting their asses handed to them, and is lead by a single lunatic with total control.
backing putin farther and farther into a corner isn't a great idea.

Putin is free to return his troops home and leave said corner any time.

Sorry but Russia has lost all benefit of the doubt. If their submarine is gone it probably sunk in some accident. And lol at some kind of tsunami weapon. Most of their population lives in poverty, they are getting pushed around by Ukraine, and we're supposed to think they have some super high tech weapon?

Nope.
Pretty sure the sub was towed away by a farmer with a tractor.

This seems like a bargain. Added countries to NATO. Exposed Russia. Jeff Bezos could have funded this so far.
And what are the results? When does the spending stop?

I think it's too much when we are fighting inflation and domestic issues here. Most Americans dont even know what's going on over there.

Neville Chamberlain is that you?

Nevermind

So that's where it stops making sense. The sanctions stopped it from being used. Blowing it up stops it from being turned on should the situation deescalate. This means less money for Russia in that event and isn't logical. Putin could gain "Sympathy" in plenty of other ways should that have been his goal.

Europe is hurt the most by it and now the US is in a prime position to supply liquified natural gas to Europe this winter and use this a strategic opportunity to pull Europe away from Russian energy dependence.

If this was Russia, it was one of the dumber moves they could make. If this was western actions, it was one of the best things that could have happened for them.

Both Nord Streams are two pipelines, there's still one pipeline of Nord Stream 2 operational.

So ignore their boats...ignore it fits everything Putin has done (including having read its similar to how he came into power)...ignore its always pushing propaganda to blame the West for things to gain him support.
It must just be the US crossed the line into attacking their infrastructure? No...it makes zero sense it was the US. Seems clear which one of us is believing conspiracy theories...

Only Russia pushes propaganda. We all know this. US intelligence and western media have an impeccable track record with these things.

Russia also must be dumb enough to damage one of their main levers of power, which at the same time increases the US trade and influence in the region.

Europe wasn’t going to turn it back on with him being crazy. If Russia some how stops acting like a maniac this thing will be repaired and turned back on.

Its going to be a cold winter in Europe. In reality they need these pipelines more than Russia will over the next 6 months. I wish them the best figuring it out.

Defense officials fear Russian President Vladimir Putin may flex his military power by testing a massive nuclear torpedo called Poseidon, a report said.

NATO reportedly issued an intelligence report to its members and allies warning that the Kremlin is planning to test so-called “doomsday” nuclear torpedo drones, a senior UK defense source told the Times of London on Monday.

Poseidon is a long-range undersea nuke designed to hit coastal cities at extremely long range by traveling to targets underwater.

Such a test would be carried out near the Ukrainian border in the Black Sea so Putin can prove he is willing to make good on his threat to “use all the means at our disposal,” including weapons of mass destruction, sources told the paper.

Recent reports estimate that the weapon is capable of carrying a 2 megaton warhead — more than 150 times the power of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 and decidedly larger than a tactical nuclear warhead.

Powered by a nuclear reactor and nearly 80 feet long, Poseidon is essentially an uncrewed nuclear submarine with a warhead.

They weren’t turning this one on as long as Russia was in Ukraine. That shipped seem to sail a ways back.

It's one thing to doubt that the US would be involved in hitting the pipeline but it's incredibly naïve to believe it would be impossible.
Who is saying impossible? Im saying improbable vs Putin being the far more likely culprit.

Why do you think my comment was directed at you?
I stated my position...after asking you who is saying its impossible. So...who is?

Apparently asking you to unpack your post is now funny.

I was making a statement. If I was accusing a specific poster, I would have quoted them.
I don't think I've ever accused you of being a board cop but this really does straddle the line here.

Is nobody allowed to comment on your post because it wasn't directed to a specific poster?

Not at all, especially if you disagree with what I said. But I made a general comment and one that sho apparently agreed with. But instead of ignoring it or hitting like or responding in agreement, he turns it into whatever it is now. Sorry but that's the type of silliness that makes it hard to actually post here.

i defer to the military guys in here but the way i figure if the us government can figure out where basically anyone is using thier phone i have a good feeling they know right where that old u boat is take that to the bank brohans

I have faith the US and NATO would find it if they started looking. The phone example is a little off because the phone needs to ping a tower to work and we can see it updating. Sub hunting is more like finding someone using a walkie talkie or CB radio to communicate. You need to be in the right radius to find it.

It left port and no one knew where it was until it was spotted on satellite.
