Anyone been to Death Valley? It's beautiful (1 Viewer)

My wife is from right outside of Death Valley and we come out every couple of years.  It's an amazing place.  I love the desert.  Amazing views and very serene. It's off the beaten path to say the least  but worth the drive if you're in Vegas and want to get out of town for a day.  Probably the most desolate place in the country.  Just don't go in the middle of summer.

I used to have a close friend who loved to travel and hike and had been to many places across the globe.  She tragically died in an auto accident in Rio de Jeneiro a few years back, but she said Death Valley was her favorite place.  Never been there, but plan to go sometime.

Telescope peak is definitely on my list of places i intend to hike.
I've been to the base of it near the charcoal kilns but haven't made the hike up the peak. There's a lot of great lookouts you can drive to as well. Date's View and Agueberry point are fantastic views.  There are a big set of sand dunes in the middle of the valley you can drive up to. We walked out to the tallest one a few years ago and watched the sunnrise over the mountains. Breathtaking

We're headed out all day on Monday in the valley. The weather is perfect right now. I've been out in August before when it was 125. Rough.

Sorry to hear that gb.

Nowhere like it, at least not in the US.  There are a couple hotels in the middle of the valley you can use as a starting point. My wife's hometown is about 60 miles from the middle of the park.

I drove from Mammoth Lakes (8,600 ft) through Death Valley and down to Vegas in one morning. Crazy the change in scenery.

Death Valley is really remarkable. We stopped for water at like 9am and it was 102 degeees.

Every half-dozen years or so, Death Valley blooms in early spring. A buddy of mine and i made a 4some of going down to see it once in the 80s. I never use this awful word, but.....awesome. A giant sea of yellow & purple
It's a very unique place in the world. I've seen the blooms, too.  Saw some Burroughs and big horn sheep last time. Hoping to catch a few again.

As I walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I took a look at my life and realized there's nothing left.

pretty sure it happened in 2015.  i go to mammoth a lot in the winter, and there were the most amazing blankets of wildflowers, all along the 395, as far as the eye could see.  very cool

Just got back after an entire day in the valley.  Freaking amazing. Sat on the sand dunes and watched the sun rise.  Tried to go to Scotty's Castle but the road is still washed out.
