anyone buying into the Bills hype? (1 Viewer)

That's funny... on Sportscenter last night, they had the bills ranked dead last in the AFC on offense and defense. I forget who the analyst was...

As a Lee Evans owner in multiple leagues I was happy to read this in the above article......

The extra year together has wide receivers Evans, Peerless Price, Reed and Roscoe Parrish zipping into their routes and coming out with the ball. From the look of things, Evans is on the verge of a monster year and should emerge as one of the top AFC receivers.

Actually it was the Jets they had ranked last in the division on offense, and Jaws was the analyst

not true. Bills offense was 3rd, behind Miami ( :moneybag: ) and ahead of the Jets.Bills will be much improved on offense this year but defense figures to take a step back due to the losses of Clements and Fletcher and Spikes (although he hasn't contributed much the past 2 seasons). However, they should get continued improvement from the 2nd year pros in the lineup (Whitner, Simpson, Ellison, K.Williams, McCargo) that will help offset that and Posluszny has a chance to be pretty special.they have a brutal schedule to start the season though. I think they'll be competitive but are probably another year away from making a run at a wild card spot. With regard to their division, Pats should have it locked up. Jets are solid. Dolphins seem like a mess. Bills probably go 3-3 in the division this year.

I think next year is the year the Bills make people notice.

The bright spot is I see them winning all the games they are supposed to win. Which may not be too many, and sneaking up on a couple of teams to steal a couple of wins with the potential to slip into a wildcard game that they have no business being in.

I hate to sound like the perpetual optimist but I really like what they have put together and I think the leadership that is developed this year will be what takes them over the hump next year.

I am really excited about watching them improve this year. I know there will be games that they will make me want to kick the TV in, but I think there will be plenty of times they will leave me cheering.

I think Losman could be a great part of a QBBC this year. Passing on the higher-ranked QBs and waiting for 10 or so to get picked and you can really put together a good squad this year.

I'm buying. I don't think the defense is in as bad of shape as most think. It's young, but FILLED with excellent potential.

Defense

D-Dline: McCargo was coming on well as a rookie until the foot injury. Both Shobel and Kelsay are underrated.

Secondary: Clements was good, but not irreplacable. Terrence McGee is underrated and I believe Ashton Youboty will be a contributor this year. The combination of Whitner and Simpson is one of the best young combos in the league.

Linebackers: Ellison had a decent rookie year and should only improve. Crowell could be an emerging star. I think Poz will be a stud.

I've got mixed feelings about the Bills ... yeah, i think they're on their way to becoming a good football team, but i'm having a tough time believing Losman is the real deal, but i'm starting to come around for 2 reasons:1) Fairchild is installing the QB-friendly Rams' offense of a few years ago and drafted Lynch to be the Marshall Faulk

2) Losman isn't having to learn a whole new system and seems to have taken well to the system he currently is in.

I like Evans as being a top performer and Losman as a late round steal. However, it's worth noting that I believe that the Bills will be playing fewer home games toward the end of the season because selling out the Ralph in November & December is difficult because it's so cold. Losman has historically struggled on the road, so this may be a cause for slight concern for teams going into the playoffs of their leagues.

That's pretty much how I feel. They're putting together a very good young nucleus of players but their schedule is just brutal. If everyone can get one more year under their belts and the Bills can get just a little easier schedule next year, they'll be looking good in 2008. I still think that they should be looking to extend both Losman and Evans now though...

:goodposting: I had Evans in one of my redraft leagues this past season. I most definitely want him again. IMO, he is very likely to be a top 10 WR this season.

As for the rest of the Bills, Losman has shown last season he can develop into a pretty good NFL QB. He still has a ways to go though. I really can't make any comments on Lynch though. It's hard to gauge how a rookie will do in the NFL.

Overall, the Bills will pretty much finish the season like last year, behind NE and NY but ahead of Miami.

The hype is a year early. They've got some good pieces in place but it will take another year to mature and gel. If they were in the NFC I would be much more optimistic but in the AFC even with improvement I'd still put them behind the Jets, Pats, Chargers, Bronco's, Jags, Colts, Ravens, maybe the Bengals and Steelers. So even though they've improved they need to improve quite a bit to rise to be a playoff team.

I'm not sure what to think about Losman. Two years ago, he sucked. He dramatically improved last year. He may even be an average NFL QB now. I can't figure out if he's reached his ceiling or he'll continue to improve.

The other major problem with the Bills' O in recent years has been the OL. I think it's greatly improved as well in the last year.

McGahee had some talent but never really made the jump from "great comeback" player to top NFL RB. He may do well in Baltimore but I think the Bills are better off with Lynch although I have never seen him play.

The star on this O is Evans. I don't really think they have many other receiving options though. I'm not sold on any of the other receivers or tight ends as a serious threat.

The D will miss Clement. Youboty has the potential to play the position but not at Clements level. The rest of the D should be improved with a little more experience. I don't think Fletcher and Spikes are as big of losses as some think.

Overall, this team is still a year or more from competing seriously for a playoff spot but 7-9 or 8-8 is not unrealistic. And who knows, if Losman does continue to improve, Lynch steps right in, a second recieving threat emerges, Youboty fills Clements spot, this team could surprise.

I honestly didn't know there was Bills "hype". I've seen most people put them around .500 and just missing the wildcard by a win or 2. Where is the hype?

:lmao: there's clearly not much hype about the Bills chances this year either on this board or in the media. I do think there is some hope for the Bills offense, however, and some stories may have been picking up on them. I think continuity in personnel and schemes is very important, and the Bills will be going into a season with generally the same QB, coaching staff, and offensive scheme that they used last year. When was the last time that happened in Buffalo? I think it's been awhile. The offensive line has also been a problem area for awhile but really seeemed to stabilize when Peters was shifted to LT midway through last season. The addition of Dockery playing next to him should give the Bills a really strong foundation to build off and run behind, and there's enough ability at the other spots for them to potentially be above average as a whole. Given Losman's development, the emergence of Lee Evans, and expected improved overall play of the offensive line, it's hard not to be optimistic about the offense this year. They have some question marks at RB and WR2 and maybe TE, but they have good depth at those positions even if they lack star power. I feel good about the offense this year. I'm much less confident about the defense though. They could still surprise but lost a lot of talent and leadership and don't appear to have addressed the primary weakness from last year - run defense. They were better than most people expected them to be last year. Hopefully, we see continued improvement again. I think Levy has put together two strong drafts in a row, and I like the coaching staff Jauron has surrounded himself with too.

tough to find 7 or 8 wins for them in that schedule. they might only be favorites in a few games all year.Broncos, Steelers, Patriots (including last 2 on the road) is a brutal stretch to open the season. Cowboys, Ravens, Bengals, Patriots is a sick home stretch as well. If the Bills go 8-8 this year it would be a huge success against that schedule. 5 or 6 wins seems more likely.

7-9 with a shot at upsetting the Eagles at the end to go 8-8. I think having a veteran coach like Jauron will help keep it together after the brutal start.

The defensive fall off will not be as bad as people expect. The biggest problem of stopping the run was caused by Spikes and Fletcher being unable / unwilling to fill the gaps caused by the penetrating DL. The DL will be better and more consistent this year. They got rid of the problem LBs.Better LB play coupled with speed, speed and more speed and a full year in the system will make this a much better defense than last year. There will be some bumps due to the learning curve of Poz, but it should be a minor distraction when compared to breaking in 2 rookie safeties simultaneously.

10 wins is definitely possible.

brutal schedule, and a streaky QB in Losman. I'm not buying any hype about the Bills. The AFC East is host to 3 very solid defenses, one, NE, is the NFL's best..the Jets are getting better and Miami's defense is always solid.

that Steeler defense , with Mike Tomlin's coaching, will be every bit as good as Minnesota's was last year, only better. Buff plays them in week 2. The Cowboys defense should be one of the best in the NFC, so that will not be an easy game for Buffalo.

I think they start the season 0-5 heading into the bye week,

and finish 6-10..they'll beat Miami,Jets, Redskins, Jags, Brownies, Baltimore ( only because they will focus on stopping McGahee).

its partly why I do not think Lynch will be a major contributor this season. On Paper, this has to be one of the toughest schedules against the run. Things change, but for right now, it looks like Buffalo is going to have a hard time winning just 6 games..

10 wins assuming Philly has nothing to play for. I think they take the home opener, Pitt is a realistic win, beat Jets and Dal at home, Jacksonville is a possible loss but I don't really like Jax this year, they should beat MIA twice but i gave MIA the win in FL, Cleveland isn't that good, Giants aren't either.
