Anyone else thinking of benching Hines Ward this week? (1 Viewer)

Hines isn't 100% so he may be limited - not to mention he could aggravate the injury during the game. They are playing a tough D in Miami and, if that isn't enough, Batch will be starting at QB. I don't have any great subs to replace him with but am considering playing Drew Bennett against the Jets. Anyone else benching Ward this week?

I might, but don't have a whole lot of other options. The way I look at it, I paid $28 for the guy for a reason, so I don't see a point in sitting him for a $2 or $3 receiver in the frist week. I don't think that the injury is really that much of a concern. The others listed are more valid.

yeah i'm thinking bout benching him for D-Jax.. but it looks like it's a toss up. Both are battling injuries :wall:

I am also thinking of benching him.The Dolphins don't have a great secondary though. And I think it will be even worse with Daniels probably out. My other option is Antonio Bryant.

It's not like Batch is not going to throw the ball and Parker gets 50 rushing attempts.

I think Ward plays, he is the #1 WR in Pitts and I don't see Mr. Cowher sitting him.

I am starting him.

Will C. Batch throw more than 20 passes all game?

I doubt it.

if 1/2 of the throws are to Ward than would be 10 targets.

Ward catches roughly 60% or 6 catches.

Will ward go for 100yds and a TD against a pretty good Miami team?

Again I doubt it. I think 60yd and a 50/50 on a TD is more likely. 6-12 points

Then he is still coming off a hammy.

I am benching him this week.

I think it is a big problem for the Steelers if he only makes 20 attempts all game. That is 5 passes per quarter. Miami is going to key on the run anyway....

Bryant would be promoted to the starting lineup for me too if I benched Ward.

If Ward is playing this week I think you have to play him. What use is a 2nd or 3rd round pick if he is on your bench? Unless you have another stud to play over him, he should be on your starting roster.

He was listed as probable on Wednesday's injury report.

If Ben was playing - as yourself would you start him?

If the answer is Yes, then it has nothing to do with Ward's hammy, but rather all to do with who is throwing to him.

If the answer is No, then you should be looking to bench him each week he is "probable" - and every other player in that situation.

Right now, I have him benched for Matt Jones, but that was before things sounded more positive for him starting.

I'm not sure at this point, but I'm leaning towards starting Ward.

One league I have him as my wr3 behind Holt and Roy and we must start 3 wrs. My other options are curry vs the bolts on monday or D Bennett vs the jets. Another league - we start 2wr and 2 rb and a flex - I already have the portis dilemma so Im looking at Jordan, Duece, Boldin, Driver and that leaves me looking at Portis or T Bell, or start ward tonight.I have no clue what to do.

starting him in a couple of leagues...One as my wr1 and another as my wr3.

He produced before w/o Big ben there and this primetime...Ward is a gamer....he will be there and be the blanket for Batch....I expect a very good game actually from him. As where Big Ben would probaly spread it around alil more ya know....kinda similar how D.Garrard too over for Lefty last year, he leaded on the VET Jimmy Smith....

So i think he will do okay tonight.

I was thinking of benching him for Bobby Engram. Then I saw that he had two big games last year with Big Ben out, so I'm starting Ward.

Don't know, it's either play Ward or Coles. Many people say start your studs in week 1 regardless. Some of us don't have the likes of Holt to bench Ward in favor of. IMO, Ward is a stud.

I wouldn't bench Hines due to the hammy injury. Hines has been fine for a couple weeks but the Steelers have been very cautious with him.

As far as how much the Steelers throw the ball, it really depends on what happens in the game. Batch threw only 16 times in his first start as a Steeler last year against Green Bay because the Steelers got out in front early. In his next start he threw 19 times in the first half at home against the Browns because they were behind.

Ward had 1 catch for 12 yards in the Green Bay game but was 8-124-1 TD in the Cleveland game (although the TD catch came after Batch had left the game with an injury).

If you have better options then go with them but I wouldn't let the injury worry you. And one other thing: Ward usually comes up big in big games. This is a big game...

I was going to bench him for Driver, but can't do that now with Smith's injury.

I'm in the exact same boat... same two players.I'm rolling with Ward. As far as backup QBs go, it could be a lot worse than Batch. And Batch has been there long enough to have some chemistry with Ward. I'm thinking 80 yards with a 50% chance of a touchdown. Which is fine production in my book.

4 catches for 47 yards with a TD so far at the end of the 3rd.

His hammy doesn't look bad at all - although I was a bit concerned in the 1st Q and half of the 2nd.

Benched Ward for Joe Horn, was more concerned about Batch than Wards being healthy.

11.3 points sitting on my bench with Ward.

With Stallworth gone Horn should once again be the man for New Orleans so I am not concerned about him getting me points.
