Growing up watching football I don't remember seeing throwback uniforms being used hardly at all, if ever. Now it seems like teams are doing it 3 to 4 times a year. It's always in the name of some anniversary, but it seems like just marketing to me. As a Bills fan it seems like they are one of the teams especially guilty of this. Pretty soon they'll be wearing throwback uni's for a famous Buffalo Jill who retired.

The Bills should be guilty of this. The throwbacks they wore in the Hall of Fame game were sweet, and their current uniforms are among the worst in the league. The Bills should use any excuse they can to get out of wearing their current uniforms.

I won't argue that. They're ugly. So they should upgrade, not use retread uni's from decades ago. It would be like requiring players to wear bell bottoms and butterfly collars when getting off the plane instead of suits. Actually, that might be kind of cool.

Well that would depend on when you grow up wouldnt it? :P But I agree, they seemed to be overdone, it should be a once a year thing or maybe once every other year. The only team that Im okay with having the throwbacks on more are the Chargers, those are nice.

It think they should be limited to wearing them only once every ten years. then handle it like the 94 season where they wore them the whole year.

My nephews who love to learn about football are confused on who is who when they change all the time.

Hell no. In most cases (Detroit, Tennessee, Buffalo and especially San Diego) the throwbacks are waaaaaaaay better than the garbage they choose to wear now.

It was odd seeing the Titans wear the old Oilers jersey, but damn if those aren't sweet.

The only thing I don't like about throwback uniforms is watching the highlights that week. Makes it harder to follow when the uniforms are way different.

It's way, way overdone.

The throwbacks definitely lose their sense of uniqueness when they roll them out every month or two. It used to be "oh man check it out the Chargers are wearing the power blue's tonight!". Now, it's just another Sunday when they do it...

:lmao: Exactly

That said, teams wearing throwback uniforms doesn't bother me in the least.... If they want to celebrate their history, this is as good a way as any I suppose.

The Patriots have not worn their throwbacks since 2002. I love the red and white uniforms with the greatest logo in the history of sports. Pat the Patriot.

I really like them, but I'm not about to go buy all of them! :goodposting:

Your bias against them made for some pretty lousy poll choices. You made the poll choices skewed towards slanting the vote into just what you wanted to hear. Try it again, without the bias if you actually are interested in other opinions, and not just trying to get people to agree with you.

:kicksrock: The "I love them and want to buy them all" should be modified to something along the lines of "I like them"

Edit: I heard the Jets will be wearing their "NY Titans" jerseys vs. the Titans' "Oilers" jerseys in Week 3, but that may have changed.

With the 50th anniversary* of the AFL this year, you'll see all original 8 teams wearing them a lot this season.

*Anniversary is loosely used here to make the marketing guys at the NFL happy.

Has anyone seen the Titans (Jets) white throwbacks yet? Frankly, and I'm not a big jersey buyin guy, I'll git me one of these!

I was just thinking the same thing. Good poll. I think it is overdone. I love the old unis but the NFL should streamline it. Maybe one throwback week a year, if that.

As a Pats fan and a graphic designer, I like "Pat Patriot" for its nostalgia but I find everything about "Flying Elvis" to be superior, especially the team's history with that logo.

I do know that I will own a Steve Grogan "14" throwback when I find myself with some spare cash.

yeah we know its done to sell more jerseys, but so what people like to have a twist. in Chicago every body has a 54 jersey, so might as well get a superbowl or thowback jersey.

very few throwbacks are worse than the current.

throwbacks worse than current:

Steelers

Jets

Packers

Eagles

I can't opine on the Bronc's yet, but from the looks of things, it reminds me of a beef burrito

No. You will agree with me.

That's a throwback jersey? :goodposting: lol I seriously had no idea, I thought it was just like a 3rd version or something.

Does it come with the neck roll? :goodposting:
Highly doubtful. The neck roll would add to much awesomeness. It would likely kill whoever wore it. :hophead:
Ahh the neck roll. Guy was the QB of my hometown team when I didnt know the game very well. I thought he was a warrior. Did you know he had a 500yd rushing season in 1978 and a 12 TD rushing season in 76?

I once made a hobby out of drawing by hand every NFL helmet on some artwork helmets as a teen. Drawing Pat the Patriot was probably my favorite. He just looks awesome. I'm not happy they ditched those unis.

The problem with the current Patriot uniforms is the color scheme. Its red, white, blue, and GRAY. Those are CONFEDERATE colors.

I think they are tremendous and an easy way to bring back the colors and styles of the past. While some younger fans might not know what a team is at first glance, it's actually a great opportunity for an older fan to share some memories that are triggered by seeing the throwbacks.

Weird this is coming from a Bills fan. Because myself and all the Bills fans I know love their throwback unis. I wish they would make the switch

I love the Lions throwbacks wayyyyy more than the regular uniforms. Wish they would just adopt them as the regular unis.
Many teams throwbacks are better than there new uniforms.
Really, isn't this just a way of saying that those teams should just upgrade to new uniforms rather than occasionally throwing back to old ones?
I don't think so. For many teams, the throwbacks are much better than anything they'd "upgrade" to. When teams "upgrade" they end up losing character or they do stupid things like trying to look more "fierce".The best thing the Jets ever did with their unis was go back to an older look. Same thing for the Giants. If they didn't immediately start winning SBs right afterwards, I'd say the Pats ruined their jerseys. The Patriot hiking the football was one of the best logos in all of sports. To a lesser degree, I'd say the same is true for the Broncos. With those 2, nobody would ever think of going back though, since SBs came immediately after the switch. The Bills should go back to the old school jerseys. Those unis were designed way back when Ralph was lucid. I'd trust the 50 YO Ralph's judgment on unis much more than anything he'd sign off on today.

teams that should wear throwbacks:

Bills

Chargers

Pats

Titans - as oilers

Broncos - old D onthe helmet - Orange/Blue elway era jerseys

Tampa - creamsicle

Teams that should not:

The Jets - that titans stuff is horrible

Broncos - anything with that horrible brown color

pittsburgh- yuck

Philly- that yellow/blue nightmare

I remember the bears and packers having some butt ugly ones as well

This pretty much sums it up.Frankly, I loved the creamsicle TB unis. I know they bring back horrible memories, but they were some nice looking unis, imo.

It's not gray, it's silver.

I think the throwbacks are cool, but definitely overdone. They should be used once per season, at the most. It would be even better if they were relegated to special occasions.

Also, I think the Raiders still have the coolest uniforms in the league, and it's not even close. Take out hometown favorites, and a Bo Jackson throwback is pretty much the best jersey any fan could ever own.

I agree that the slate blue Titans jersey is ugly, but the home whites are pretty nice.

Talk about prophetic.

I think the Titans and Patriots have worn their throwbacks more than their normal uniforms this year. The Titans may as well just go ahead and change their name back to the Oilers.
