the last couple of weeks i have had to keep reopening a window for gamecenter. this happening to anyone else?

it's been happening to me for a long time. i have had better luck with firefox, but it still gives me problems there ..

I actually get it more with firefox! I use firefox by default, then every sunday I'm switching to IE by 12:15... it takes me till Tuesday to get back to the ol' fox then. :wall:

Some java issue?!

i use firefox and it happens often w/ versions 1.5 and 2.0. didn't happen with my ie 6 sp2 yet. something tells me it related to active x and not the browsers.

i also get scripting errors with cbssports.com w/ firefox but not ie.

I've been having this problem with CBSSportsline trying to follow NCAA games on Sat. I believe it is NOT related to the browser, but instead to Flash/Shockwave or Media Player (not sure which, since it's on the work computer and can't change this to try and fix it)

I thought it was java from the appletA few friends that had this problem, I asked if they saw the TV commercials in the field applet. Nope. I figure that's about when it shuts down. Maybe it's not java, you may be right but I think it has to do with that commercial BS

could be your firewall / security software shutting down what it thinks is a bad applet.if that's the case it's not MSFT.BTW, the new IE is better than FF.

Had it happen with Firefox 2.0 here over the last 2 weeks.. simple fix is open another tab just to your homepage and than click between the tabs you need. For some reason I don't get the error at all when I don't leave the gamecenter on the bottom tabs.

I used to have what I think is the same problem with sportsline's baseball scoreboard. This worked:

1. Type about:config in Firefox's address bar.

2. Filter down to the value for dom.max_script_run_time.

3. Change the value to something higher than the default (which is 5.) I set mine to 20.

4. Bask in interruptionless browsing!

I googled the error message to find this.

good fix, but also if you download 2.0, when it fails, you just restart firefox and it says "restore session" and it will open up all the windows you had open before.

Firefox 2.0 shuts down on the nfl.com page for me. I'll try that fix. Thanks.

care to explain how  one of the nice things about FF is that it isnt a resource hog(even with multiple tabs open, however since I dont use IE i cant state it as a fact but i have read that IE is still sorta a resource hog when it opens multiple tabs

This seems smoother and less traffic, no applets and....well just liking it better lately

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/gameTrax?gameId=20061106026
How come you guys don't just hit another site. I quoted one above, another one or two was mentioned here. I'm surprised. What's with this determination? My thinking is whatever works best, don't wanna miss out on in game stats. NFL's doing it themselves next year so it'll be different anyhow. I'm not "sufferring" thru this year.

Curious why you guys are? It's been said it's annoying, it closes all the windows+everything you're working on so...why?

My answer: I want to fix what I have. If my car has a suspension problem I get it fixed, rather than just stick to smooth roads. Personal preference.

I looked at fox after you suggested it, but it doesn't update as quickly as nfl.com

Noticed that. Even at 30 it was a play or two behind.

Not sure if everyone here is a Windows user, but I have a Mac.

I get an error and auto-close when I use CBS Sportsline's live Scoring, but not NFL.com's.

I get this Error with both FireFox and Safari.

Couple things with regard to what's going on here.

First, the dom.max_script_run_time fix in firefox didn't work for me. I'm using 2.0.

FF and IE crash equally as much for me. Mostly, the biggest anoyance with FF is the "Script not responding" error, which is really what the dom.max_script_run_time change was supposed to fix.

For Gamecenter, once I began using NFL.com's gamecenter versus Sporsline's, I have had FAR less problems. Although it'll still crash once or twice a Sunday.

I'm going to try Foxsports.com's stat tracker thing this week and see how it works.

Finally, I saw a comment that the new IE is better than FF 2.0. I beg to differ. I'm all for using what works best despite being an open source guy myself. But IE is still lacking in almost every area that made FF so popular 3 years ago. Still slower, still no right click-open new tab option, still as clunky as ever from a menu perspective.

MS tried and failed yet again to make a product better than somebody elses. What's that make them....about 2 for 10000?

The 2 being Word and Excel. Both super apps.

having the same problem. I get some kind of "runtime error" where it cant read memory or some :nerd: ####.

... snip ....

I run both IE7 and FF2 now. I agree that for me, FF2 is the way to go. I love the extensions. I cannot have the same browsing experience with IE7. I am a FF "fanboy" due to the extensions. But a couple notes (not necessarily in response to the above quote, but to everyone). IE6 and IE7 are actually just as fast or faster than Firefox, thanks to being integrated into the OS. Opera is actually the fastest browser available. IE7 is a HUGE upgrade over IE6, although I still think it lacks the expandability that FF has. IE7 is much more compatible with the web standards (than IE6, FF still beats it by far here) as well, although MS still had to go their own way on a lot of things, which causes headaches for web developers. BTW - Middle click (or mouse wheel) opens a link in a tab in IE7 just like in FF. IE6 had a very low memory footprint for a single window open. It got crazy with memory usage when you opened multiple pages though because each one was in a separate process. But I believe IE7 memory usage has improved due to the use of tabs, and is equivalent with FF2. I do expect FF3 to introduce much better memory management and performance, as I have read that the even versions of FF will introduce front-end features while the odd versions will work on better performance and behind the scenes enhancements.

Personally, I will stick with FF2 and I hope a lot of people choose to use, stay or switch to FF2 as well. I highly recommend it. Get Firefox

But while I despised IE6 and couldn't understand why people would use it, I could use IE7 and can see why people would use or stay with it. I hope they don't, but I can understand it.

I use Firefox for everything except viewing NFL.com and Sportsline.com, both of which crash Firefox2 but work fine for me in IE6.
