Anyone excited about Brunell? (1 Viewer)

I'm sure he'll have a decent game this week against Houston (although like Culpepper, if he doesn't this week, it's over for him), but going forward, how will he do? I've only seen a bit of him this year, and he did not look good, but how much of that is attributable to the fact that he's had no running game?

I am anticipating that Portis's return will give him a substantial bump, and that as long as Portis is healthy, Brunell will be serviceable from here on out.

I certainly look for him to have a good game this week against Houston - in fact I drafted him to play that specific week. But he has not looked good - I don't know if anyone on the Redskins has and they need Portis in the lineup to help Brunell and everyone else. Hopefully they explode against the Texans and Cooley and Moss can get well along with Portis....and Brunell

Brunell has looked really bad. If he looks bad against Houston, Jason Campbell is going to take his job.

WAS has had no real running game w/ CP out. The O line has struggled vs. 2 pretty good D's (MN/DAL). Aside from S Moss the WRs aren't really getting open, and by the time Moss does get open, Brunell is (slowly) running for his life in the broken down, sorry excuse for "the pocket". B Lloyd is MIA and Cooley's role is pretty much gone now. Maybe D Coordinators have figured out that just by blitzing Brunell early and often, he'll fold.

Also, IMO it seems like the play calling is ?'able at best. WAY too many short routes, dump offs, screens. Moss can make them work now and then, but not the rest of them. Saunders is trying to apply the KC scheme w/o Green-LJ/Priest-Gonzo and it seems like the required talent just isn't there.

ortisownertalkingnow: I'm somewhat optimistic that CP will run well and help keep the defenses more honest moving forward, which (in theory) should help Brunell do well. But, I'd hate to have to be starting Brunell on my FF team this year. For WAS to succeed offensively, I think they'll need to run Portis 25+ times a game, manage the clock, and then the dink-n-dunk pass game will prove effective.

Having watched both WAS games this year, there is no doubt in my mind that Brunell is about the 43rd best QB in the NFL.

Sucks that i'm a Skins fan and I can't argue for Brunell. He's looked AWFUL. And i agree, if he doesn't play well today with Portis back, against one of the worst pass D's in the league, he SHOULD lose his job. I do think he'll have a reasonably solid day. 250 yards, 1-2 TDs.

First half---14 for 14, 191 yards, I TD. I think he is safe this week.

Brunell figured and still figures to improve as the year goes on. This team is struggling to adapt to the new offense and continues to make dumb mistakes - mostly in the form of false start penalties that really hurt them.

This game today was a nice boost for them, but it was against a really inept team and Brunell, while he set an NFL record for most consecutive completions to start a game (22), benefitted from a lot of short passes that went for very long gains.

Like I said, they'll continue to improve, mostly because they have to but also because it's a characteristic of teams that Gibbs coaches. OTOH, I won't believe they've truly "arrived" as an offense until they start completing throws 15+ yards downfield to their WR's.

Last year that miracle finish at Dallas jump-started their passing game. As a 'Skins fan I'm hoping that this Houston game jump starts it this year in the same way.
