Anyone going with the Redskins passing game? (1 Viewer)

I have Portis and Santana Moss in several dynasty leagues. (Hi, I'm a homer)

Santana is currently ranked the 30th best WR this weekend by FBG, but I'm wondering if he shouldn't be significantly higher because it sounds like starting CBs Ross and Dockery will be out. Also factor in the increased number of deep throws attempted by the Skins during the preseason, and finally comments made by both Portis, Campbell, and Zorn, all talking about the team will go down field instead of "dinks and dunks" this year.

Is anyone upgrading Moss and Cooley? I actually THINKING about benching Portis for Santana in a few leagues at the flex, because of these secondary injuries.

Anyone on board, or do I need to be talked out of this? :goodposting:

I hope so. He's definitely the #2, and Portis has been raving about him. I know Portis is a character, but he's been pretty spot on when it comes to evaluating talent. But I see Kelly as the chain mover and possible red zone target, where Moss is gonna get some home run balls I think...we all know Santana occasionally has those 7-150-2 games, and just wondering if this might be one of those games...Giants are REALLY hard to run on too...

The giant's D line is stacked and almost 100% healthy minus Alford. Ross is the only starter in the secondary that's not playing and Terrell Thomas is a decent backup (Dockery is the nickel) I don't see Washington's "O" having a good day fantasy wise. Bottom line Campbell will not have time to throw deep! It's going to be defensive battle. Portis is the focus of that offense; not Moss.

Terrell Thomas should be fine to start, he's been great in camp and jumped ahead of Dockery midway through last season. The outside Linebacker is the biggest weak spots till Boley gets off suspension. I too don't think the Skins line can hold up the whole game against the Giants rotation. Perhaps Washington will try some no-huddle to prevent some substitutions, but can they can't prevent subs in all game.

Redskins OL vs Giants DL is big time in favor of Giants. Plus Campbell takes way too long to get rid of the ball and doesn't read the field as well as he should at this stage in his career. I wouldn't touch the Redskins passing game with a 10 foot pole this weekend

How many times do you see the matchups and realize that it would be a dumb play to start a guy like Portis or Moss only to see the guy's name appear on the sportsticker with "TD" associated with his name? I try not to overanalyze and go with my gut feeling.

My heart is with the Redskins, but I'm a realist...

In the end, Football is a really simple Game.

Offensive Line Talent/Play

Defensive Line Talent/Play

Run the ball

Stop the run

The Giants are superior to the Redskins at every one of these things.

Throw in the facts that this is a Week1/Home Opener for the Giants (something they've been very successful with over the years), and it's the final Season played at the Meadowlands, and there's far too much working against the 'skins come Sunday.

Now, throw in the info that quite often the Giants/Redskins Games are low-scoring and statistical wastelands...

The last 9 Games played at the Meadowlands between 'skins/Giants have totaled 36 or less points.

This has the makings of a 17-13, 24-13 type of Game with the 'skins coming out on the short end. Not much in the way of stats coming out of the 13 side of that score, I think...although from a fan standpoint, I'd be overjoyed if I was wrong.

You're forgetting that Canty missed the entire preseason. Even if he's active for this game, he's going to be rusty. But you're right - the D-line is the strength of that defense anyway. I think the 'Skins throw to set up the run in this game, which is very much unlike any offense they've run dating back to Spurrier ( :football: ), but which is classic WCO and very much appropriate in this game. I'd expect to see a good number of 3 and 4WR and 2 TE sets to spread out the defense. I would expect Randle El to get a good number of targets in the slot to maximize mismatches off of short drops. Moss has traditionally had good games against the Giants, and the defense will have to focus on him, but for the first time the 'Skins have other receivers who are viable alternative targets. Anyway, this is going to be a very interesting matchup.

this makes sense to me. i've got Portis going in one league. gotta play him when he's fresh.i've got Santana as WR 3/4 and i aint startin him unless i have to. he's WAY too inconsistent.

the only Skins i like this week are Portis and Cooley

At this point in the season it really depends on what you beleive in when it comes to the Skins! Maroney=Speed is right on the money if you ask me ... this will be a very interesting game! Every year most people are wrong when it comes to prognosticating and the NFL. This is because the variables that we are dealing with happen to be very dynamic and ever changing. People! They get better, they get worse. They work together well as teams one moment and not so well the next. I believe in the Redskins this season and I could write you an essay on 'Why' (but I won't). I have a feeling that most people are gonna be wrong when it comes to how this game plays out. Too many are underestimating Washington this season. :goodposting:

With the injuries to the Giants DBs Campbell will take a few intermediate-deep shots down the field. They'll likely be testing that early in the game.

Portis and Jacobs are the featured players in their respective offenses. However both of these defenses are geared up to stop the run so I'm not wild about either RB prospect.

Should be low scoring, it's tough to see where the points are going to come from in this game.
