Anyone have a juicer machine in their house? (1 Viewer)

Anyone juice at home?

Looking into it - curious about cleaning the machine, what you make, and any reviews/feedback.

Breville machines appear to be well regarded as the gold standard from my initial research.

Any info is appreciated.

Have this monster's previous version from a few years back. It makes great juice, but the 2 things that have made me switch to smoothies is that it a pain to clean and like any juice,r you need fresh veggies so its a hassle keeping them stocked. With smoothies, you can buy everything in bulk frozen not worrying about spoilage and its a blender so it takes a few seconds to rinse out.

I have a Vitamix. Not a juicer but I pretty much just throw everything in it, frozen fruit, spinach, beets, carrots. Mix in some yogurt occasionally. Easy way to eat veggies each day.

It never gets stuck, very easy to clean.

Got one of those ninjas for Christmas. It's not a juicer (what's the difference)? I make smoothies everyday after I worlout. It makes a good smoothie, is easy to use and easy to clean.

Depending on what you're looking to do, you may get by with just a good blender (in fact I had the $100 Breville model and ended up giving it away and just using the blender I already had  )

If you're looking to just turn whole fruits into a smoothie drink, use a good blender. If you are actually looking to extract the pulp etc and get just the juice out, the Breville I had did that well, and cleanup isn't too bad, just take it apart and rinse two or three of the parts right after you're finished using it.

Supposedly all the good stuff is in that pulp you'll be throwing out. Who knows.

Main difference is what it does with veggies... A juicer will turn carrots, kale, celery, etc into a liquid without pulp. Same thing with fruit I believe.A ninja will basically turn them into purée.

Same. I've had a smoothie for breakfast every day for about 4 years now. The Vitamix makes it really easy.

Same here. I was going to buy one of those blendtec blenders when my wife said she just bought a ninja during black friday. The ninja works great. I'm sure glad I didn't drop all that loot.

I have a juicer, but I haven't used it since I got a Vitamix.

The Vitmaix requires less prep work (don't have to chop things as small), is much easier to clean, and I like the fact that the end product retains the fiber. (If you don't want to keep the fiber, you can strain the smoothie through a cheesecloth, but for most purposes, I prefer keeping it in there.)

If you run it through the Vitamix on high for a few minutes, it comes out pretty darn smooth. It also starts to get hot, so then you have to refrigerate it or add ice if you want to drink it cold. (I haven't tried a ninja, but it should be similar.)

I just got a Blendtec which is not a juicer but basically liquifies the fiber in fruits and veg. Much more healthy than a juicer. You don't want to lose the fiber. best thing I ever bought.

The way the Vitamix heated up what you put in it was one of the main reasons I went with a Blendtec. The design of the Blendtec doesn't heat up the contents. It sucks the food down and pulverizes it. The Vitamix basically slices it and pushes everything up. No plunger needed with the blendtec. Put cold stuff in and it makes a cold whole juice.

Yup. I run frozen fruit and whole carrots with a bit of water in the Vitamix for probably 30 seconds and it is pretty much juice.

I don't mind the pulp from the veggies.

I enter Blendtec into the browser on my phone and it autopopulates "Blendtec vs Vitamix"...

Already some good info in here to digest... My wife just watched a YouTube video on the Breville and basically said NFW. As "easy" as these juice machines say the cleanup is, it prob is a PITA.

Trust me, royal pita.

Blendtec cleanup is put a little water in with a drop of soap, run it for a second or two and rinse.

Don't think you can go wrong either way. I make a veggie smoothie thing of some sort pretty much every morning, with cleanup it takes less than 5 minutes.

Vitamix 5200 owner here. My veggie/fruit intake is probably 10X what it was a year ago pre-Vitamix.

Would buy another one tomorrow if this one broke. Absolutely love it.

Whats the difference between a Vitamix or Blendtec and my regular Kitchenaid Blender? Is it just the power?

I make smoothies with the Kitchenaid, but it doesn't do that great a job, the process from start to cleaned up is about 15-20 minutes.

Had a Breville blender and tried to do what I make in a Vitamix and it would not blend / get stuck all the time. Think it must bet the horsepower.

Love our Vitamix. I don't want to lose the fiber though. Wife makes homemade almond milk, cashew and almond butter, soups, smoothies, sauces (where you need to incorporate an oil slowly like vinegarettes and Paleo mayo). Awesome machine if you are committed to clean healthy eating.

What advantages does a juicer have over the blender style machines?
Juicing is best for simply looking for the vitamins and minerals that the food provides. It's quick, easily/readily digestible, especially first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

Making smoothies is great too and provides the added benefit of the fiber, but may actually not be particularly beneficial to those who have weakened/depleted digestive sytems (as most people tend to.) All of that concentrated fiber is hard to digest when coupled with the liquid in the smoothie diluting stomach acid necessary for digestion.

On the flip side, the blender retains everything including the pulp as some others in this thread already mentioned. I returned my Breville juicer because most of the ingredients ended up being wasted. I think a juicer only makes sense if you are trying to lose weight or going on a cleanse. If you want all the nutrients, get a blender.

That's what we have.

Drank 2 smoothies full of vegetables and fruit for dinner instead of my usual Sunday night "weekend recovery" meal high in fat and carbs. Looking forward to the green logs in the morning.

Have one, the wife (who bought it) uses it maybe once a month. Fortunately we have found a new place for it so it no longer takes up space in the kitchen when not in use...

Just getting started with the fruit & veggie smoothie's and gotta say I'm loving it after a couple of weeks.

Going to start pricing a new, much nicer blender option thanks to this thread.

However, can we get some of your guys' favorite recipe's and combinations? For the most part all of my experimenting has been very tasty but have come across a couple that were just un-drinkable.

TIA!

I'm mostly a use-what-we-got guy with my smoothies. I buy a couple big bags of frozen fruit every couple months from Costco - blueberries, mango, strawberrys, papaya, pineapple, etc. Then I just use the spinach/kale that wifey buys weekly at the grocery store, along with whatever fresh fruits she also gets, think apples, bananas, grapes etc.

I usually try to keep it to 2 fruits for every veggie, but occasionally mix in a 3rd fruit.

I'm up in the air between a high end Ninja (which is in the low $200's) and Vitamix (which is in the $5's)...

Trying to figure out the big difference between these which causes the price to skyrocket for the Vitamix.

Decent read

cleaning it was such a pia we now have a $300 dust collector in one cabinet we had fun with it for about 8 months. it was pretty cool to just throw any damn thing in it and have juice come out.

So I got a ~$100 juicer maybe 2 years ago after watching Fat Sick and Nearly Dead on netflix. Thought I would give it a try, and did a 10 day juice fast - dropped a few pounds. The thing was a ***** to clean, though, with all the pulp and such that's left. My sister recently was gifted a Vitamix, really looking to get one of those after I saw what it could do. Is it really worth the $ over a ninja or some other (still pricy) blender in the 200-300 range?

Is this comment specific to a juicer, not a blender like Vitamix/Ninja?

The higher cost is a feature, not a bug. I bet the usage rate on Vitamix is much higher due to cheap mofos like me who make sure we get our money's worth.

:goodposting: First infomercial thing I've ever bought and it's freakin' awesome. Works well as a blender and food processor too FWIW.

Never used a Vitamix, but have never had cleaning problems or even pulp for that matter in drinks we create. The ninja absolutely obliterates the fruits, don't have to worry about "skins" or seeds ever. The only thing I prep is oranges. Apples go in as large chunks, grapes, strawberries, everything. Don't have to worry about it.

Do you make juice with it or strictly smoothies?
If I don't use ice for a smoothy I use a juice of my choosing...usually apple juice. It ends up being very similar in texture to those naked juices. I know it's adding juice to make more juice, but it seems to work just fine as I usually add some veggies as well.
