I have not hear it confirmed, but I am guessing that Leftwich was brought in for leverage by management during Boller's extension negotiations.It boggles my mind that there have been no ATL rumors. KC publicly stated they are not interested.

When I saw Leftwich play against the Packers, he looked like the worst qb in the league. I don't understand all the fuss about Jacksonville letting him go, quite frankly. He's not very good!

Bill Musgrave is the QB coach for the Falcons. He was OC for the Jags when Leftwich came into the league and the two never really played well together. Musgrave wanted to run short passing, west coast type stuff and that's completely contrary to Leftwich's strengths as a QB. So I'm guessing Musgrave was a poison pill for Leftwich there. That continued to be an issue the whole time Byron was in Jax. Del Rio wants to win with defense and ball control and that's not Leftwich's strength. Why draft a guy that spent his whole college career in the shotgun throwing medium and deep ball to run a heavy play action, west coach short passing game offense?

His skills limit his options to join another team. Now that you put it that way, I'm wondering how he would fit in the Vikings scheme.I'm starting to think the answer to that is "not very well."

I agree. Leftwich's limitations as a QB are going to shrink the pool of prospective new teams. Also, the way he was cut is going to raise some eyebrows across the league. He is certianly going to have to earn a chance to start again and might find himself in a situation where he even has to earn the QB2 spot.

They are good enough for backups, but not starters. I think the Browns should go ahead and throw Quinn into the fire. They aren't a playoff team right now, so why not let the kid start getting the experience. It's not like he can hold a clipboard and learn behind a starter that can teach him some things, since the starters now stink. I'm not a Browns fan or Quinn owner, but I think it's time to start him. The Titans became a better team last year once they decided to start Young, after some bad games from Collins.

Leftwich was cut right before the season when teams do not have the cap room they had when Culpepper was release.Also as a vested veteran if a team waits until after the first game then Leftwich's contract is not guarrentied, so a team can cut him later and only have paid Leftwich for those games he was on their roster.

Frye or Anderson could be a backup....if they remain a backup and not have to play. If Cleveland wanted to have a QB to play while Quinn learns the system Leftwich is probably not the guy. Quinn would be several weeks ahead on learning the playbook (even though he'd be a couple of years behind in learning). If they wanted to bring in an NFL caliber QB to "mentor" Quinn, Leftwich would be better than Frye or Anderson.

To some degree I'm surprised that he hasn't signed anywhere. He may be wanting too much money.
It sure seems like there are several teams who would be interested in a veteran presence:
Minnesota, Cincy and Cleveland came to mind immediately (mabye not Cleveland now with Dorsey there).

I haven't seen anything. I wonder why a team like Dallas who has a poor backup QB would not want to take a look at him.
