I have an older brother who does it regularly and he has a 1 year old. Insane.I've never done it yet, but it is on the bucket list.
Kind of hard to justify the cost and risk with a young family, though.
Very Cool. For someone that may be interested in going once or twice a year, would you recommend putting on my big boy pants and going solo? Or is tandem "just as fun" for the 1-2 times a year I would go?480 jumps..wife has 1210....
I didn't think the cost was too bad, it was $130 with a groupon. Is it really that risky? I really didn't even research this.I have an older brother who does it regularly and he has a 1 year old. Insane.I've never done it yet, but it is on the bucket list.

I've only gone twice (tandem) but, as I understand it, in order to go solo you've got spend a couple thousand in order to get the many hours of training so that a certified company will actually let you go solo.Very Cool. If only going 1-2 times per year, tandem is the way to go.Very Cool. For someone that may be interested in going once or twice a year, would you recommend putting on my big boy pants and going solo? Or is tandem "just as fun" for the 1-2 times a year I would go?480 jumps..wife has 1210....

static lineMaybe solo isn't the right word. We were told we could take a 6 hour class then jump by ourselves. Is this something else?

Yes, Accelerated freefall or AFF is the quickest route of training. IIRC, there are eight levels of AFF, and if you pass all eight levels, you can go solo. It is also the most expensive.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerated_freefallstatic lineMaybe solo isn't the right word. We were told we could take a 6 hour class then jump by ourselves. Accelerated freefall - 6 hours of training then you jump with two instructors at your side.
