Trying to reverse engineer their salary algorithm ... anyone know?

I know they use Stats, Inc. for stats, but I dont believe Stats, Inc. does projections?

I would guess it's a mix of their own rankings plus popularity ups and downs based on a machine learning algorithm - probably simple logistic regression.
