Anyone losing interest in the draft? (1 Viewer)

Bad commentating

Not on cable TV anymore which forces me to watch it on my laptop or tablet

Hate the dragged on 1st round on 1 night deal

Now its on Mother's Day weekend!! Hey NFL, the women in my life aren't into football (atleast not in May). The last thing they want to hear about on their dedicated weekend is the NFL!! Yet another bad decision by the management of the NFL imo.

Anyone else losing interest quickly.

No I'm not. Also, my mother gets 1 day, not the whole weekend.

If you're not interested, don't watch it.

I'm not losing interest at all. I do wish the draft was in April. Other then that I'm excited for draft day to get here.

Yep. They have just about ruined it. They should start backpedaling after this years debacle.

People ares till talking about it, so they won't move it back up. I personally like the extra couple of weeks because it gives me more time to read and watch up, don't feel so rushed. Have felt burned out before come April, but not this year.

The delay has been an ugly wart on the early part of the league year. We can think around it, talk around it, act like it's not there, but it's there and everyone just has to deal with it. The fascinating thing is the way in which this terrible idea has been mitigated by this particular draft class. Imagine if this had happened last year...

No, counting down the days like Christmas.

Two weeks one way or another in the long abyss of the off-season means nothing to me. Quite frankly tired of media types making a big deal about it because they are tired of writing about the same thing. The good news for them, and us, is now they can spend two less weeks writing about the same thing post-draft till camps open.

Yep those fluff pieces are the worst. If I get a fix now there are always more prospects to research. Those get buried after the week after the draft.

If you're strictly a fantasy football guy the most exciting part about the draft is seeing where the running backs go. Day one is not looking so good this year.

I wish the first round was an all day affair with a half hour per pick. More trades, more interviews, more to talk about.

Each round should be a full day, F it. May Madness.

The delay is not creating the anticipation that they hoped... it's just dragging.

Draft should have started a week ago, or this weekend at the latest.

Day 1 should be on a Friday night, for just Round 1. Thursday night starts just aren't as fun if you really want to make it a big deal.

Day 2 should complete the draft all day and night on Saturday.

After 2 days of the biggest names, the draft doesn't have enough momentum to get enough people to re-tune in for a Day 3,

Championship games for college football and basketball are both on Monday, seems to do just fine

It's an event. If you don't plan and prepare for it to best enjoy it, that's on you.

I still love the draft with an unhealthy passion even though the NFL is doing everything in their power to ruin it. Then again, I clearly have a problem. Hence why it hang around a place like FBG 12 months out of the year.

It's an event that the NFL can choose to schedule whenever they please. If they choose to do so in a way that does not maximize viewership, then that's on them.

I don't think people realize that the nfl rescheduled the draft because there was something else going on at the venue in NYC during the regular date. It was not part of a strategy to delay to the draft.

Read somewhere that this new time will be the permanent one from now on.

I think this will get ok ratings. I think.

Nope. Next year they're going to move it further into May (maybe the end of May?). And I heard they are thinking about spreading it out to add yet another day to the draft.

NFL is more and more ridiculous on all levels. I just hope they move the combine into March. This is just dragging terribly.

Plan and prepare for it? Right. Gotcha. I'll get right on that.

Oy.

Later is well, later.

Two fewer weeks for the rookies to get acclimated to their new teams and learn the coaching system. I think the draft was moved in the wrong direction. It should have stayed in April or even March.

Could care less, I drink your mikshake all up.

4 days, 5 days, whatever. NFLN on, DVR'ing every minute. Laptop on and checking in here, NFL.com and a few other sites.

Let the grass grow, I'll do it later or mow before the draft starts. Cancel/move plans. Get a brisket midweek and get the smoker ready.

Ruined it? Nah. Hate having to wait 2 weeks longer though. I think most hate it, especially the teams themselves...

Yep, just like the last X number of years. Two weeks later, wahhhhhhhhh

I have noticed that I'm spending less time on ff and I don't listen to the NFL network in my car as much. I've been enjoying the NBA playoffs.

I dropped out of my last remaining FFL leagues after last season (used to be in as many as 6-7 at a time), and I've found myself enjoying it MORE. As I can focus on what really makes it fun:

1. Trade talk, and actual trades during the draft...where we all can weigh-in on who we think did better in the deal, and

2. Who my Vikings are adding to the roster, and how it affects their depth chart at various positions.

Combine 1 and 2? If I smoked, I'd say I need a cigarette...ha! But no longer needing to care who is the starting DE2 on the Arizona Cardinals, or if that WR the Jaguars just drafted is going to carve into the receptions for my WR3-4 on my depth chart(s), has been liberating. BRING ON THE DRAFT! Now that I've been able to boil it back down to the basics of what makes the NFL fun/interesting for me in the first place.

IMO that's true across the board. We pretty much know the top players and they will be predicted to do well regardless of team. It's the second and third rounds that are most interesting to me.

I was super pumped back in March/early April but that died a few weeks ago. I can't remember the last time I thought so little about football than the last 2-3 weeks.

I kind of like the first round on Thursday. Gives us something more to talk about at work Friday.

I don't believe that's correct. Last i read they're still deciding on draft date next year.

From wiki:

and the NFL plans to continue holding the draft in May in future years as part of a permanent offseason calendar change.

I like the 7 rounds in 7 days. The "oh ratings will fall off in the last 3 rounds" idea is crap. First, I doubt that it's overly high in the later rounds anyways. Second, what else is there on NFL Network during that time? "Top Ten Jerseys" and Larry Johnson in training camp, each show on for the 20th time in the last month. Any new shows they have can be aired the next week just fine.

They should moved the draft to mid-April. The Saints sent their guys to Vegas for this weekend because they're done with their process. So, teams don't need anymore time. The biggest reason why the draft needs to be moved into April is so I don't have to hear anymore gossip reports on this years prospects.

I love watching the guys that got drafted go meet the team and such after the draft too.

To expand on the 7 rounds in 7 days. After each pick I want a good break down of the player. How he fits on the team, some film break down, maybe have an interview with someone on the team, player or scout or coach whatever. Then jam in the 10 minutes of commercials before the next pick. They could even get crazy and bring in their fantasy guys do give a fantasy out look.

Overexposed and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long between combine and draft. Pro Tip: Radio City Music Hall isn't the only venue in the US capable of hosting.

Should have moved it up, not back. Would give rookies more time to learn the playbook, start getting conditioned, etc. and make them more relevant for the coming year.

The irony of course is the rockettes show that interfered with the regular date had to be pushed back to next year so same problem again in 2015. They should move the city where they hold it just like they do the Superbowl. Maybe if a team loses a SB bid, they get the draft as consolation.

One thing I do like about the draft being in May, it's more likely to be after the seniors graduate.

Not that that matters to these guys, but it's nice that they don't get "hired" until the year is over.

(understand that the hiring is not complete after they're picked, but it's a big step in the process)

Three days is a day too long, but whatever. As for the terrible commentary, every draft geek with a cam is doing some online analysis. Frankly, for true draft geeks, this is the best time ever, in terms of immersion, and pure data available.

Hate to see the draft pushed to May, although there's no way I'll miss it. Very inconvenient timing as the school year pushes so many end of season and end of school events onto the May calendar. I'm triple-booked this Thursday night and probably end up missing the first few picks, instead of relaxing with a few beers in my system. Never realy complained about prime time in April because not a whole lot is happening then anyway. Add in Mother's Day weekend and the NFL just turned a total man-cave holiday into a multi-task watch it when I can TV show. Remember when you could prep on Saturday morning a real draft party? Yeah I miss those days.

At some point I think they space out the picks. 5 minutes in the later rounds???? No way,

Make it like 15-20 for the 1st and 2nd round and at least 10 (maybe 15) for every pick the rest of the way. After a guy is picked, that's a nice time for the analysis and highlights, specs, stats, and whatever else there is. This would be PERFECT for fantasy players as well (moreso dynasty). Most people end up taping it anyway, so go back and check guys out.

Who are you people complaining that it's too many days?? Get the F outta here with that.

You have knows for months when the 1st round is. Take the day off work like everyone else who uses 2 brain cells of forward thinking to make sure they were able to enjoy the 1st round, and even the 2nd day.

LOVE the first round on it's own day on a thursday.

The timings were shortened a few years ago as nearly all the teams were milking their whole 15 minute allotments, making for an overly long draft. Since then they put a dog and pony show for all the picks who were in the studio, amounting for announcements for picks up to 3 picks behind where they were actually made with the 10-minute clock in the first round so reverting it back to 15 minutes would
