And they are usually way better for gaming than TV's are**

**Previous endorsement of monitors for gaming is in no way meant to disparage TV's or posters in this thread. Particularly if there is a parameter missing like said display needs to be able to stream Netflix or Disney+ independently without a PC or gaming console sourcing said streaming services.

This is what I ended up with.  The picture looks great, but we recently have started to have issues with it randomly kicking out of NF and Prime when we are streaming through the tv.  Neex to contact them to see if it just needs an update or something.  

Otherwise very happy with the tv.

Also, I didn't say your preference was wrong. I simply said that I do sit very close to a very large screen. Also, from the way you have talked about sitting close to a big screen it would seem that you think my preference is wrong. It's OK though. I won't get worked up about that. I don't give a #### what others think for the most part. 

And @offdee didn't tell you that your preference for a smaller TV since you sit so close was wrong. He didn't know about the closeness parameter. Nobody did. if it was mentioned before, I must've missed it. That could've happened to Offdee too if it was mentioned. He was probably just trying to help because it is actually easier to find a great 55 inch TV than it is to find a great 40 inch. 

Nobody is here to tell you that you are wrong or your choice is bad. We are here to try to share our own experience and knowledge with the rest in here so we can all make better decisions. Had it not been for this thread, I wouldn't have a 75 inch TCL series six in my basement that made being stuck in my house for months on end a lot more tolerable. Watching all the Marvel movies in order with my boys was so frigging cool. It would've been great on the 55 inch I replaced down there, but it was beyond great with the monster screen. 

But this is the internet so if you say something as benign as "I like oranges," someone will respond with, "Why do you hate apples?" Neither myself nor Offdee said anything about apples. Love yourself some apples all you want. We won't stop you.

At the time of me posting that I honestly had no idea people like to sit that close to large TV's. I have a 75" TV and like to sit about 12 feet away.

Either way, I found a high end TV that is on the smaller side. They are difficult to find though.

It used to not be an option. Sit too close and the TV gets all pixilated. But with 4K that's not an issue like before. I sit so close to that monster that sometimes I feel like I need sunscreen sometimes.

Not always, but yeah.  That was a main reason I liked this TV - it was Android and could stream anything (even Criterion Channel), so we didn't need the roku.  The only time it has done it was when the kids were streaming through the TV on NF, and that would also be during the day.    I honestly don't know if it's an internet issue at that time or maybe something with the TV's firmware, and it hasn't happened a ton and hasn't happened more than once when I was in the room.  :shrug:

If you have a 60 inch 4K TV, the recommended viewing distance is between 4 and 8 feet. Any further back and it's unlikely you will be able to notice the difference between HD and UHD.

This is what I bought about a year ago for my game room. My eyes have gotten so bad since then, gaming is a blur.  :bag:

 
Haven't done much research yet, but if anybody has any recommendations for the best 43" smart TV for under $300 let me know!

Want to get one for our bedroom, so will only be watched at night in the dark and viewing pretty much straight on (laying in bed).   We won't have any cable box hooked up to it...just streaming services only.   The 43" size is specific because needs to be less than 42" wide from side to side....43" tvs are usually around 38" wide (49"-50" tvs usually start to go into the 44" width)

I'm an Amazon Prime user and Costco member if that makes any difference.

After some personal research looking like the 43” TCL S525 is the leading contender for my needs. Priced at $299 at Best Buy presently 

 
What are the best value gaming TVs?  I'm hearing about hdmi 1.2 or something.  Is it the same size but better?  Or is it a completely new size?  I remember what a pita it was going from component to hdmi.

Same size and the same cable works for all HDMI versions. The difference is only in the capabilities of the TV.

The ps4 pro has HDMI 2.0 and the ps5 has HDMI 2.1, these are needed to support 4k at various refresh rates. You will need to search for the exact specifications.

Yes, still seeing $2600 on the 75. I don't really have the room for a 75 where I want to put this, and I'm actually pretty happy about that because I don't like $1500 for the TV. $2600 is out of the question.

I have the H9G, as well. Great picture, and I've had no issues with it dropping streams at all.

Definitely would recommend.

 
Looking for an 80+", leaning toward Samsung because I've probably owned 5 great Samsungs over the last 14 years. In fact, I still have the first 42" I bought in 2007. it's in our bedroom and the picture is still excellent.

Suggestions? I'm good with other brands too. Budget is ~$2k.

@nysfl2 - have you been able to connect with bluetooth?  that is our new one that we noticed - the tv doesn't detect the wife's phone or my Sony headphones.

I attached my speakers with bluetooth. I think you have to go into the "Remotes and accessories" or something like that to pair the device - it wasn't intuitive for me.

I think I got to the right screen, it just kept "thinking" as it searched for a compatible device and didn't pick up the headphones.  Wife said same happened with the phone.  Just figured I'd ask if you had anything like that.  

 
Has anyone tried to take a TV back to Costco?  I got my 75 inch Samsung, set it up today, and when I turned it on it had horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen. I just got it so I’m hoping it’s an easy return.

CostCo is the easiest place to return tihings 

 
Just picked up TCL 75c815 with integrated Onkyo sound bar last week and love it.  Last tv was 48", this thing is freaking huge.  Watching 4k videos on YouTube of places we've visited (Kauai, Rome, etc) and don't know how we didn't pull the trigger on this sooner

There's a fairly large price difference between the least expensive and the most, which is a factor.  That said, the expensive Samsung has a 120 refresh rate while the others have 60.  How important is that?

I'm not familiar with Tizen (Samsung), but I like Android (Sony).  If you have an opinion in these platforms please let me know.

The wife has given me the go-ahead to replace the old 55 in Sony in our main room. I want to go big--I think 82 inch is probably the max I want to go for that space. The Samsungs in that size are not very well reviewed. The Sonys are outside my budget (we want to keep it around 2,000).. The new Hinsense 9G has amazing reviews and you can't beat the price, but they seem to come in a max of 65 in.

I have spent a lot of time on rtings.com and other sites, but any recommendations?? 

 
The TV arrived this weekend. We had been relying on an old one too small for our living room since we bought the house in May, but now that we got a decent price (should have bought on black Friday for an even better one but thought it would be priced better on a super bowl sale). 

Sony XBR77A9G: the OLED 4k ultra thing TV with a nearly flush wall mount. My wife was pushing pretty hard for the Samsung Frame, but a little research and showing the pictures, including side by side at an actual store, helped me convince her very clearly that an LG Gallery or this Sony would be better. The Sony is not quite as thin, but seems to have a better picture for the things we like to watch on it and was much cheaper than the LG GX.

Getting it mounted and set up with the "no sight" cord setup through the wall next Saturday!

I'd check out the new TCLs. I have the series 6 in 75" and I love it and it's friendly on the wallet.

 
The SB sales have been a bit underwhelming if you’re looking for anything larger than 65 inches 

But Mrs Wrigley has still given the go ahead for a new TV for our living room.  The six year old 65 incher will head upstairs to replace a 55 inch plasma(she claims it gets too hot)as our new “gaming”  tv

Ive narrowed it down to 3 TVs

Sony X900H

Somy X950H

Samsung Q80T

I really like the 950, but they don’t sell it at Costco, which offers a 5 year warranty....only 1 year at BB
 

Anyone with any experience with said sets?

I  could go the OLED route, but the burn in scares me....wife and 3 little ones love pausing the TV and walking away 

edit:  TV will be used 100% for cinema and tv watching. No video games

I went to BB today and that 75 inch Samsung Q80t sure is nice, but that 2500 price tag isn’t. I mean once you throw in tax and the extended warranty, you are over 3k  They had it next to the Q70 and, I don’t know if they purposefully had the settings turned down on the 70 or what, but it was night and day between the two. 

The sales guy was pushing the LG Nano TVs, but they had them positioned next to the LG OLED and the difference between the two made the Nano look really bad 

I have owned Sony’s forever, but I am really leaning toward the 75 inch TCL 8 series. The reviews for this tv are amazing. The price is nice, but finding one could be challenging. Of course the BB guy immediately steered me away from them and said you have to go with one of the Big 3.

I think I posted this here once before, but unsure.

I have a Panasonic ST60 plasma in my basement. After playing COD or watching TV with a static image, you can see the logos on the screen. I usually put on the Disney channel for 5-10 minutes and it goes away. 

In July I bought an LG OLED for upstairs. Never.....never have I seen any image retention at all. I would not be concerned. Also, my TV goes into a screensaver when left paused, etc.

The updated LG Nano series has received a lot of negative feedback. I would skip on them. TCL 8 series would probably be the better option. 

 
I think I am narrowing my search down to the Sony 900H (oddly mentioned above) and the TCL8.  

The 900 seems like it can be found in stores now, but I really want to see the TCL8 in person before I make this decision.

Curious what the reduction is from where it has been prices, as Costco site does not show it as being discounted.

Looking to pull the trigger for the weekend and, while I would love the OLED, this fits the price point better.

Welcome input for those also shopping as to what else they are considering or from those who already have this unit.

I think it is just regular priced---it is listed at 1,799 at BB.
