Lee's going to catch a 40+ yarder today. Trent actually can throw the deep ball he doesn't. He'll take his shots vs a suspect pass d.
Well ,,,, He has nt done it in two years and one game so far in his carreer . Why would he start now .
In the first 4 games last season (before Edwards got hurt), Evans had 14 catches for 322 yards, or 23 yards on average. This included at LEAST 5 passes longer than 35 yards. Here is a youtube propaganda peice,
but after the first minute or so you will see several VERY NICE deep passes he made as a member of the BUFFALO BILLS.This myth that Trent Edwards CANNOT throw the deep ball is just that, a myth. He CAN. However, ever since his injury he has been hesitant to do so. In part the O-Line has not been great. Lee Evans was double-teamed. And they couldnt get any resemblance of a running game going. Lynch is a bruiser, but rarely breaks a long-run, and again, the O-Line was pretty sad last year.
So enter this season. O-Line is a HUGE question, but they passes the test week 1. New England focused on taking Lee and TO out of the game, which they did, but it opened up the short game with screens to Fred Jackson/Schouman. At some point teams will have to focus on stopping the short game which almost beat NE (okay, did beat NE...ST lost the game), and either TO or Lee Evans will be matched up 1 on 1.
I think you will see the deep game progress this year, especially if the team can maintain a good short game which was missing last year. The key is the O-Line, and they looked pretty good last week (save a few awful penalties).
