Anyone thinking about Kolby Smith for short term? (1 Viewer)

Just out of curiosity...what did you see in the last 2 weeks that intrigued you?

Week 7 (TEN) 1 10 20 20.0 2.0 0 2 5 5.0 2.5 7 - - 0 0 0 Week 8 (@NYJ) 1 11 15 15.0 1.4 0 2 15 15.0 7.5 8 - - 0 0 0

WIth Larry Hohnson facing a league suspension and Jamaal Charles ailing with a high ankle sprain, Smith suddenly finds almost no competition for carries(Eantrell Savage is currently the only other RB on the roster). WHile the chiefs aren't exactly an offensive juggernaut, having a starting RB is tough to pass up in fantasy football.

I picked him up today because I have Slaton, FWP, Fragile Fred, S Morris, Felix Jones and R Torian.

I dropped M Morris for him. At least he is healthy and starting. Ill take any points he can get me.

FWIW, I picked up R Rice and A Pittman today as well. I need a win. Dont think Kolby will get if for me by himself but Ill take what he can give. Guy was decent enough last year

I wish it was Kolby that got injured and Jamal Charles that was playing, he would be a decent play in ppr leagues, I can drop Fred Taylor to pick him up but I'd rather not, that says a lot

Call me crazy, but I have a gut feeling Smith has a big week this week. TB is playing their 2nd of 2 straight road games before a bye, perhaps they look past the lowly Chiefs? Or maybe its just wishful thinking since I had to pick him up since my other backs are: Reggie Bush (hurt, bye) LT (bye) Dunn (banged up) Rhodes (looks like Addai is back) Michael Bush (still haven't cut him yet) I may have a starting backfield this week of Kolby Smith and Michael Bush. This is could be ugly.

I also picked him up off the WW. Due to the bye week with LT & Stewart off my other option was Maurice Morris (already rostered). Not sure who I am going with but getting a starting RB is not all that bad when your options are few.

Whos to say LJ isnt playing this week? He hasnt been ruled out has he?

I'll bet he looks like an All-Pro in practice against THAT defense.

Seriously though it all depends on how big a need you have, and Thigpen's looked a little better.

i picked him up.. i had a roster spot and he shouldn't have any competition in the backfield for a few weeks. maybe i can get a start out of him, maybe not. i think a starting RB is always worth a gamble if you can spare the roster spot.

My interest merely lies in if the LJ issues drag out and Smith winds up starting week 14 against Denver. That is the first week of the playoffs for many and a matchup like that would be nice. Alternatively, preventing your opponent from getting that matchup might be equally important.

If LJ is in serious trouble or they expect to not have him next year perhaps they will being kicking tires by then. Giving Smith or Charles a shot against Denver wouldn't be the dumbest move ever.

Note: This game is also my interest in Torain. A perfect, "Let's see what you have" game.

I think both Smith and Charles are worth a roll of the dice for a couple of reasons.

1. Carl Peterson has said that LJ will not see the field in the foreseeable future which to me means at least a month into the future.

Will Chiefs’ Johnson play again this season?

Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Kansas City Chiefs, Larry Johnson

When the Chiefs returned to work Wednesday, running back Larry Johnson practiced with Kansas City’s scout team. It was the latest signal that Kansas City has no plans of putting him back on the football field anytime soon.

Earlier in the week, Chiefs president Carl Peterson released a statement that revealed that Kansas City has no plans to play Johnson Sunday or probably anytime soon.

“The case with Larry Johnson has been and continues to be in the hands of the NFL office in New York. We will defer further comment on the matter until that process has run its due course and the league has concluded its own independent investigation.

“As we have previously indicated, it is in the best interest of both Larry and the Chiefs that Larry focuses his attention on addressing his personal issues. At present, we do not believe Larry can contribute to our team on the field until those issues are resolved.”

Johnson still might play again this season. But it will not be before he can get his mind and focus squarely on football. Right now, the Chiefs feel like that is to difficult to do.

2. Herm has made a change to the spread offense starting with this last game vs NYJ. This gives the opportunity for different results than KC has been able to show from any position so far. Smith and Charles are both more likely to catch passes out of the backfield than the way that LJ was used.

Conclusion: Smith and Charles are potentially worth something now. Charles was effective running and receiving in the NYJ game but Smith was only effective receiving as he was 11 for 15 yrds rushing in the game. If Smith gets all the touches he could put up similar numbers to Charles but I'd rather have a healthy Charles who was injured with a high ankle sprain in the game. The schedule is good with the exception of weeks 9 and 16. I'll pick up Smith now in my deep leagues and keep an eye on Charles for when he's healthy.

NFL.com's Adam Schefter speculates that a statement from Chiefs President Carl Peterson earlier this week revealed that Kansas City, "has no plans to play Johnson [Week 9] or probably anytime soon."

I picked him up also. Lj is out for awhile and maybe for the season. Charles has the dreaded high ankle sprain, so Smith is the RB, regardless of how bad the team is he will get touches and will probably be a decent flex player when the matchup is favorable

Charles will be back by next week. If LJ isn't playing in week 14 my guess is that it will be Charles playing since Smith won't be able to do anything with his carries this week.

If you have no other options, grab Kolby. He may only get 15 carries for 30 yards, but those 3 points may get you the win if you have no other RB's to plug in.

I thought high ankle sprains took longer than two weeks. Are there any recent examples of the duration of high ankle sprain injuries this year???

I am a little confused here, I had heard/read that Jamaal Charles had a high ankle sprain and assumed he would be out a few weeks. The Friday official injury report has him as probable and indicates he partially participated in practice, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. If Charles is avaliable, Kolby Smith is no lock to get any more carries than he did last week.
