Anyone want to talk about Cotchery? (1 Viewer)

I liked reading all the insight being posted on Colston in this thread, so I thought I would start one for Cotchery. What do people think?

Some data (through week 2) for analysis:

Player / Targets / Receptions / Percentage / Yds / Yds Per Recept / TDs

Laveranues Coles / 22 / 14 / 63.6 / 253 / 18.1 / 1

Jerricho Cotchery / 17 / 12 / 70.6 / 186 / 15.5 / 2

Justin McCareins / 8 / 6 / 75 / 85 / 14.2 / 0

Schedule:

3 – BUF

4 – IND

5 – JAC

6 – MIA

7 – DET

8 – CLE

9 – BYE

10 – NE

11 – CHI

12 – HOU

13 – GB

14 – BUF

15 – MIN

16 – MIA

nahhhh, he gets enough pub with the NY media.

sidebar: of course if he were on NE, then it would sick coverage. (espn is like watching a local sports show or something)

seriously, I have not watched Cotchery too much, but the presence of Coles is much more diminishing to his value than Horn is in NO. that's my :2cents:

But Cotchery is #2 behind Coles. Colston is #3 behind Bush & Horn.EDIT: And NO has a decent running game. The Jets don't.

Never, EVER, count out Kevan Barlow.

I started counting him out 3 or 4 years ago! :sadbanana:

Good point, I think there will be enough passes going in the air to keep Cotchery valuable. A measure of FF success is opportunity. There seems to be plenty of opportunity with the NYJ offense AND he seems to have talent. It's only week 2, but for anyone reading this considering grabbing these guys off the WW (if they are still there), you need to grab them BEFORE success continues or it will be harder to get them. I'm not saying these guys are going to put up Holt numbers, but if the pattern continues, it seems they will be consistent against poor and average defenses. I'm anxious to see a couple more weeks of games.

Cotchery could become the new Coles. He's just making plays. Eventually the casual fan will catch on. I think he's for real.

If he were playing for NE, he'd have had 2 catches for 17 yards every week and we wouldnt be talking about him. Hell, you and I could play for NE and Brady would find us twice. In the Super Bowl however, he'd have 17 catches for 243. :yes:ETA: So we'd all line up to draft him the following year and he'd be back to 2/17 again. :wall:

Really how so? Both appeared to make huge yards after the catch last week.
Coles is a speedy, smurf type WR.Cotchery is built more like A Boldin. Cotch almost looks like he's built more to be a TE than WR.and sure, they both had big YAC and TDs last week. But Coles' was a shifty and elusive run. It was like a punt return after the catch where he zigged and zagged avoiding tackle after tackle until he was all alone.Cotchery's catch was a car wreck of three players (Cotch and 2 DBs) and somehow, when they all fell, Cotch's knee never touched and he scampered out of the rubble to waltz 60 yards for the score.

The count is up to 8, actually. :smellingsalts:

Great description.

With Takeo Spikes back for Buffalo this week and Coles less than 100%, the Cotch Rocket could be grounded this week.

Gotta give him props for being aware of the situation and scoring a TD. 9 times out of 10 the play ends there. Any he displayed some football smarts right there. :football:

An excellent KO returner given a chance to shine in a struggling offense and has done so.
Cotchery was in and out of the return lineup, and is a reliable, but not excellent returner. He's the guy the Jets send in on punts when they MUST be caught, but between Justin Miller, Tim Dwight, and Leon Washington, Cotchery doesn't get KRs anymore.Btw, Cotch is 6' and 207 lbs. I don't know who thought he was built like a TE, b/c he's not even that big by WR standards, and is one inch and 14 lbs. bigger than Coles.Cotch has been getting praised since he was drafted by the Hermway regime. He has excellent fundamentals, and slipped down in the draft b/c of a slow 40 time. This guy broke Torry Holt's records at NC State, but ran a 4.6 at the combine. In training camp this year, he was timed in the 4.4s, and that extra speed has been clear on the field. I would compare him to a Hines Ward in style of play - very tough, great hands, heady, loves to run-block, selfless. It looks like Cotch will have numbers so long as the Jets have no running game. Keep in mind though that the Jets have been without LG Pete Kendall, the veteran star of the O-line, and that lack of rpesence on a young line has reaqlly hurt the team, especially in run-blocking. By midseason though, the line will probably have jelled sufficiently that the Jets will be running a more balanced attack. In such an offense, I don't know that Cotch will be much of a fantasy performer. Rosterable, certainly, but not a starter.

RB Barlow Will Carry The Load

Dave Hutchinson, Star-Ledger - [Full Article]

Jets RB Kevan Barlow worked with the 1st team on Thursday, while Derrick Blaylock was excused from practice to be with his wife for the birth of the couple's fourth child. It appears that Barlow will get the bulk of the carries Sunday against the Bills. Blaylock will likely be used mainly in 3rd down situations, as he was last Sunday.
