Are fans of your NFL team as venomous towards their own (1 Viewer)

Not sure if this is a FFA topic or not. I don't know if people here in Wisconsin like to wallow in their misery or just want something to b*tch about but this year people are just brutal with negativity towards most of the team (even Rodgers to a degree, though he mostly get's a pass) and most of all against management (GM and most of the coaching staff). Maybe it's a defense mechanism, I don't know, but it really feels like piling on. Certainly the Packers have some major warts (I think with few exceptions most teams have their fair share as well), but certainly are in the mix, at least right now, for a wild card spot and are one of those teams like the Bears, Chargers, and Dolphins who are in between the elite and bottom feeders. Also, I recognize fans of the Packers are passionate and have high expectations for their team, unlike fans of perhaps the Jacksonville Jaguars.

So fans of other teams, especially those perhaps underperforming, do you feel more negativity than positivity or enjoyment on how the season is going? Bears, Chargers and Dolphins fans, I'd like to hear from you.

You forgot Redskins fans.

Some of the Cowboys message boards are pretty tough on the team. They were ripping Jason Garrett after the club scored 38 points last Sunday.

I think most passionate fans would be that way.

At least of teams that have been accustomed to winning.

You missed the bolded part. Redskins ARE the bottom feeders.I think any team that is perceived to be underperforming will have more negativity than a team that is about what is expected or over-achieving. The Bears lost a close game to the Falcons (one they could have/should have won had they not made so many mistakes) - they then got blown off the field by a good (but not great) Cincy team. All of that poor play was coming off their bye. Going into they bye 3-1 and having beaten the Steelers, expectations were that the Bears would manage to win one of those two games. Not only did they not, they looked to have taken a step back, in terms of their offense. Pre-Cutler the Bears were 9-7 - the expectation was that they would be at least a win or two better in '09. The sudden degradation of the O-line and poor running game has cause them to be on pace to miss that goal. As such you have some frustrated fans.

A good number of Colts fans are complaining that they only beat the Niners by 4 points on Sunday. Stuff like "They'd lose to the Steelers or Pats if they played that way." My response is that they didn't have to play the Steelers or Pats on Sunday.

I think fans are only truly happy in two scenarios:

1. The few weeks after their team wins the Super Bowl

2. When a team comes out of complete nowhere and gets on a big winning streak (say - a playoff run like last year's Cards team).

I think some fans will ##### about any little thing otherwise.

most Bronco fans were pretty upset with management throughout offseason and pre-season, but most of the disgruntled have gotten on board within the past few weeks.

Winning seems to cure all.

After every loss we have to hear "same old Jets"for the last 40 years!
Yeah. I don't have experience with other fans, but Jets fans have the shortest memories, and are the most reactionary people that I've ever been around. People were saying the Jets were going to the super bowl after week 3, then saying that Sanchez should be cut and Ryan fired, and alot of fans seem to take a perverse pride in the Jets losses, so they can continue with the Same Old Jets rhetoric.

You forgot the poster-boy...Richard Todd.Besides that, the post was flawless.

Being a Packers fan, I feel it justified to chime in on this topic. Plain and simply IMO, Thompson has destroyed this team. HE is the one that has put this pile of garbage together. And, he hired the "Coach" to Coach this pile of garbage they call a football team. Thompson and McCarthy have had (count 'em) 1 winning season in this now their 4th year together. They will NOT have a winning season this year either as there are t least 5 more losses left on their schedule. Thompson's absolute steadfastness in being the youngest team in the NFL(4 years in a row now if i remember correctly) is NOT a formula for winning. His absolute REFUSAL to use Free Agency as a way of improving this team has come back to haunt him(like no one could see that coming). His stubbornness to only build through the draft is not only short sighted, but it's cheating the fans.

I do not even need to go into how badly he bungled the Favre fiasco. That look on his face after the Vikings game last week that was captured by Fox....I hope he feels like that a lot more this year, until he is gone. I will say this......if they do not have a winning record again this year(and good enough to make the playoffs) then changes NEED to be made. Thompson and McCarthy both need to go. Period.

I think it's pretty telling when Bob Harlan, the greatest President in Franchise history had to miss his first game in 38 years, because he could not stomach the scene he'd witness on Sunday, with Favre coming out of the opposing teams tunnel. I know he would NEVER admit it publicly, but I will bet you any amount of money, he is sickened by the way that was handled by Thompson, and McCarthy and even more specifically President Murphy.

Be rest assured, if Harlan were still president, #4 would still be wearing Green and Gold one way or another, and he would also not stand for the losing aura that has surrounded this football team the last 4 years(1 exception). He sees the Franchise slowly sliding back to being the Packers of the 80's, and so do I. Murphy will not have the kahunas to do what's right at the end of the year. Harlan would....
