Are players bound to NFL rules during lockout? (1 Viewer)

I imagine, by definition, a lock out means that there is no agreement between the NFL and the players now. So can Britt be held accountable for being arrested twice this offseason? There are drug arrests and other violations going on. Will these players be subject to anything more than a wrist slap from the coach and a stern warning? Can Roethlesberger get a quick date rape in before a CBA is settled? While this is a joke, would any agreement Roselle made with him apply now?

Shefty reported once as I watched ESPN that, "If players get in trouble" they can only be punished by the team they have a contract with, not the NFL, since the CBA is not in effect. They are not a memeber of the NFLPA currently.

My guess is that this will be covered in any potential agreement between the players and the teams.
Yes, they will probably address it. I guess the players can agree to be accountable. I'm sure the (former) NFLPA told the players not to screw around. It just seems there are more guys getting busted with Marijuana like Britt and now Javarris James. That stuff stays in your system for weeks.

IND - RB Javarris James arrested in Florida

Indianapolis Colts RB Javarris James was arrested Thursday, June 9, in Fort Myers, Fla. on a marijuana possession charge. He was taken into custody at 9:30pm and released an hour later. He is charged with marijuana possession of no more than 20 grams.

We'll see if this has any repercussions but right now it doesn't seem overly worrisome.

hard to punish someone when your currently not paying them... as the other poster said it'll be something that both parties will have to agree to and I'm sure they will do something to the players that are getting in trouble.

But in the end, doesn't Goodell (at least prior to lockout, and I don't seem him budging on this in a new CBA), have the final word word in suspensions based on a rule that (very) roughly states " The Commish can suspend a player if they misbehave in a way that it hurst the NFL brand" (or some verbiage like that)? While the crime may have been done at a time when the player was not "with" the NFL, could the rule be so loose that it encompasses time during the lockout? Personally, i don't think it is right to suspend players when they are not with the NFLPA, but for example, if things were "normal" now and a guy who played in the league and was cut happened to get three DUIs in a month, I have a feeling there would be repercussions should he sign with a team.

Guaranteed once all of this settles, things will be retroactive. So they should still be on their best behavior. Yes Kenny Britt, I am looking at you...

I mean, I apologize that I didnt make it obvious enough that I meant when everything is settled. The players still have a contract with the team and owner, they can punish them for things the have done when the lockout is over, the league however cannot (With a staight face). That is what I understood when Shefty reported. But i dont any team punishes anyone, unless they go all Vick or Plax on something.
