Are the "good" WR's more inconsistent/underperforming th (1 Viewer)

Seems like it's hard to rely on the WR's who were supposed to be good and/or great this year. My inconsistent/underperforming list includes guys like Steve Smith (Panthers), Greg Jennings, TO, Calvin Johnson, Roddy White, etc. etc.

Seems like you could make a really long list of inconsistent/underperforming WR's.

WTF is going on this year?

(I know we are only 3 weeks in but come on.)

A lot of them have reasons

White - Gonzalez takes red zone

Steve Smith - Delhomme regressed yet another step

TO - hurt, moved to new offense with worse QB

Calvin - rookie QB, more conservative coach/offense

Jennings' lack of production seems more luck - too much luck last year with long plays, no luck this year. It's common for WRs of his type.

Other disappearing guys are

TJ Housh - losing production to Burleson

Ocho - more conservative offense, Caldwell mini-emergence

Avery - injury, outperformed by Laurent Rob

Berrian - injury, no chemistry with Favre

Bryant - injury, QB carousel, fluke last year

Ocho seems like he's off to a more consistent start than last year. He's not gonna put up the monster numbers as much but I'll take his double digit points (ppr) each week.

Seen it before in past years. The 'O's will starting jelling and the cream will rise to the top.

You could say the same thing for RB....not one back has had three stud weeks....From our scoring system, there are 4 WR's who have scored 10 points or more each week, 6 RB's and 14 QB's.

It's been a weird start. Top 5 in my league is desean jackson, reggie wayne, vincent jackson, steve smith, and andre johnson. It's even weirder in return leagues. Percy Harvin is leading by a large margin in return leagues.

Last year's end of season top 20 WRs (1/10 yardage, .5 PPR), and where they ranked after week 3:

Code:

2	5	Fitzgerald, Larry ARI WR
3	4	Johnson, Calvin DET WR
4	19	White, Roddy ATL WR
5	7	Jennings, Greg GBP WR
6	88	Smith, Steve CAR WR
7	1	Boldin, Anquan ARI WR
8	31	Bryant, Antonio TBB WR
9	3	Marshall, Brandon DEN WR
10	10	Owens, Terrell DAL WR

5	7	Jennings, Greg GBP WR
18	8	Royal, Eddie DEN WR

25	15	Houshmandzadeh, T.J. CIN WR

80	17	Stuckey, Chansi NYJ WR
31	18	Jackson, DeSean PHI WR
4	19	White, Roddy ATL WR
28	20	Cotchery, Jerricho NYJ WR
Edit to add: Note that I am comparing final season actual rank vs week 3 rank. That isn't what we're doing with this year's crop. We're instead comparing our preseason ranking to their week 3 rank, which is probably even further away than the real regular season results are.
