Are the RBs really that deep this year? (1 Viewer)

A lot of talk about going with WRs early especially in PPR leagues but it seems that the RBs that are available in the 4th -7th rounds have a lot of issues. Here's alist of RBs available in a recent draft of mine in these rounds. When you go WR,WR you can end up with some big question marks at RB. Iv'e seen some guys go RB,RB and end up with some good WRs.

McFadden-Looks awful,hasn't secured starting job

Moreno-Injured but plans are for him to be starter

Addai-Starter for now but Brown could be soon?

Rice-part of 3 headed monster but should get most of the carries

Parker-Mendenhall vultures tds

Lynch-suspended 3 games and Buffalo looks sick,Jackson

L Johnson-Jamall Charles 3rd down back and KC could be playing from behind alot

Ward-3 way RBBC?

T Jones-Getting older and Leon Washington getting more time as well as Greene vulturing TD

Wells-Cardinals never have much of a running game, injury prone and Hightower sharing time

There's so much turnover year-to-year that it really comes down to risk (measured as the chance you won't have a stud) vs. position. In which position do you want the most risk?

For me, I'll risk more in the WR/QB/TE category (in that order this year), than in the RB arena. I'll still throw a few darts later on, but only after I have 3 solid RBs.

In rounds 4 and later Wrs often available include A Gonzales,D Jackson, Royal and V Jackson. All starters who could lead or be near the top of their team in receptions or touchdowns. I could live with any of these as WR2

There will be guys that are being drafted very late step up and have big years, but which ones is the question. Just did a draft yesterday were both J. Stewart and Mendenhall were available at the start of the tenth round. That's not even getting into guys like M. Bush and C. Taylor, or a late comer to the party like Caddy Williams. If you load up on WR/TE/QB early, I think you can do well if you draft a lot of the RBs late. In most leagues you just have to hit on 2 of them.

The same can be said for WRs who can bve had in the same rounds and even off the waiver throughout the season who will be big surprises.

There are good backs latter on but no bell cows like you would get in the first round.
That is the big question I am struggling with...at what point do the true "bell cows" drop off before you look at possibly going WR-WR with a late first round pick, and load up on RB's the next 3-4 rounds? I have to say, I think the RBBC has made Fantasy Football more intriguing on Draft Day. There is definitely a lot of potential value and some potential "studliness" available later in the draft at RB, which was essentially non-existent just 2-3 years ago. Now, the thought of going WR-WR is something to consider.

I'm not sure what the purpose of this thread is. If you think every RB after Kevin Smith sucks and there's more value in WR in the mid-rounds, then go ahead and load up on RB's early. It's your team.

Well, if your cards fall right, you could end up with this roster:

Rd 1: Fitz or Moss (WR)

Rd 2: Calvin or Wayne (WR)

Rd 3: Bowe, Rodgers or Rivers (WR/QB)

Rd 4: Ray Rice (RB)

Rd 5: Larry Johnson (RB)

Rd 6: Greg Olsen (TE)

Rd 7: Felix Jones (RB)

Rd 8: Jericho Cotchery or Derric Mason (WR)

Rd 9: Roethlisberger (QB)

Rd 10: Hasselbeck (if you went WR in Rd 3) or McGahee (handcuff Rice) (QB/RB)

Rd 11: Shiancoe (TE)

At this point your roster looks something like

Possible QBs: Rogers or Rivers, Rotethliberger and/or Hasselbeck

Possible RBs: Rice, LJ, F.Jones, McGahee

Possible WRs: Fitz or Moss, Calvin or Wayne, Cotchery or Mason

Possible TEs: Olsen and Shiancoe

I'd be pretty happy in a 12 team league, sure you don't have a guaranteed top-10 RB, but you have 3 possible top-10 RBs, and definitely 3 top-20 RBs

ADPs based on http://fantasyfootballcalculator.com/adp.php

I've seen other drafts where you would get Moss AND Fitz AND Calvin... if you can do that, you MUST!
