Are we about to see THE craziest few weeks in NFL history? (1 Viewer)

With reports of a deal almost completed, owners set to meet in Atlanta on Friday to ratify it, and players to vote on it and re-certify on Thursday, it's looking like it's FINALLY a done deal.

I think I saw Adam Schefter saying that if it indeed is completed, then Friday-Sunday would be a 72 hour window for teams to re-sign players. Then the feeding frenzy begins with FA and trades. Are we about to see things happening by the hour over the next few weeks? Think of all the signings/trades that happen throughout a normal, LOOONG offseason, and now think of what all that lumped into a few weeks will be like. :excited:

Kolb, Orton, or...McNabb to AZ?

D Wllliams to Denver or re-signed by CAR?

Kolb, Orton, or...McNabb to MIN?

Nnamdi to Philly? HOU? DET? (ok, pipedream there)

Chromartie to DET or re-signed by NYJ?

Hasselbeck re-signed by SEA?

Steve Smith traded to BAL? MIA? Re-signed by CAR?

Ocho Cinco re-signed by CIN or dealt elsewhere?

TO signed by someone and then shelved for late season?

R Moss signed by someone (I don't even know where to speculate)?

C Palmer to retire? Comes back to CIN with his tail between his legs? Traded?

C Benson re-signed by CIN or allowed to go elsewhere (maybe due to recent legal trouble)?

Soooo many stories that are about to explode and forever change the landscape of the NFL. What sayeth you?

God I hope so, drafting on the 29th.

I agree that it will be a very crazy, rapidly changing period for the clubs and players....BUT that time frame is way off according to John Clayton and others who suggest that the free agent period will be from Monday, July 25 to Thursday, July 29

I've heard the 49ers are going to be all in on the Nnamdi sweepstakes. Besides that I believe they are quiet although I'd want them to get Orton if the price is right and then pass on Alex smith.

It's going to be a crazy free agent fest surpassing anything we have seen before, but I'm just looking forward to football activity. I am going to embrace the insanity.

I think he was also suggesting the FA period would start on Monday.

Ayup. Teams get first dibs for 72 hours I believe I heard Schefter right. THEN comes the open market, which would start Monday if the timetable holds firm.

PFT broke down the ESPN report like this:4 days after the ratification: Teams will be able to sign undrafted players. On the same day, teams will get a three-day window to re-sign their own players. It’s safe to say tampering will go nuts in this period as agents shop deals around.7 days after ratification: Free agency starts. So does the league year. A lot of huge deals figure to be signed within hours. Magic.12 days after ratification: Rosters will be set at 90 players. That’s a lot of signing in a very short amount of time.13 days after ratification: Deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer sheets. (We’re assuming RFAs will only be third year players at this point, but that isn’t confirmed.)17 days after ratification: A four-day period for teams to match restricted free-agent offer sheets ends.22 days after ratification: This one isn’t agreed upon, but it could be a deadline for rookies to sign. Um, wow. This unprecedented idea is something we’ll delve into later.26 days after ratification: The signing period for RFAs, franchise players, and transition tag players ends.If this transition process is implemented, teams that don’t have a lot of issues with regard to restricted and unrestricted free agents will benefit from a relatively full camp experience.

The salary cap will be 120M - 9M less than the last capped year. Many teams will have to cut big contracts to get under the cap. On the Ticket radio station here in Dallas yesterday, Rich Goesslin said there are currently about 50 very good FA's available now but he expects that to grow to around 120 once teams cut players to get under the cap.

top notch FAs arent going to get the huge money is the cap is shrinking. So they will chose to play on good teams that offer the same amount, or can afford the bonuses. This will be fun once it starts. Glad we arent drafting until Sept. It will take that long just to know who is where and whats their playing status.

I have heard reports that it would be $123 million - but the important things is that teams HAVE to spend almost that much (not sure if I heard 90%)....but good news here because the Cardinals will have $40+ M they have to spend and IIRC that was like third or fourth in the league. The Redskins have the most to spend - almost if not $50 million

Well yeah, that was the big gripe of some big spending owners - some cheap owners (like the AZ owner) make it a lot harder on them. Surprised the cheap-os didn't balk at this being a part of the new CBA.

The teams with a strong front office are going to have an even greater advantage this year. There will be more pressure to make smart and fast decisions on contracts and personnel.

I say The Jets Sign Braylon Edwards....

Holmes and Cromartie move on.

I think some team is going to pay Holmes HUGE money.

...... I just hope some team will pay Cro.

NFL network reporting that the Cardinals, Bengals, Bucs, and Chiefs are all substantially below the salary cap and will need to go on a free agent spending spree.

Players like Nnamdi Asomugha and DeAngelo Williams stand to benefit with huge contracts once free agency opens
