Are we ready for a music draft? (1 Viewer)

I have a draft idea I want to roll out at some point. I think it's a cool/unique idea from what we've done before. I'm kind of itching to get it going to be honest. BUT, I know there is a new MAD31 thread just ramping up and we aren't too far off from Summerpalooza music/fantasy season.

So the question for the FFA music folks is, would you up be for a music draft kicking off next week possibly or are we better to wait for the fall even though I am very impatient.

Between the new MAD countdown, Summerpalooza and other fantasy football things that some of us are involved in (plus a lot of people take vacation in July and August), maybe waiting until September would be best, but if the decision is made to do it now and I like the idea, I'll do what I can to participate.

I typed it all out a while ago for myself. Alcohol may have been involved.

The Music Festival Draft

The goal is to build your ideal music festival experience, consisting of 21 bands, including headliners, sub-headliners and lower tier acts, as well as festival experiences

The draft will be 25 Round Draft + 2 Bonus Rounds

Because of the nature of the draft, the first few rounds will be picked in order with a 4 hour clock, later rounds will move to one pick per day.

Everyone will draft:
  • 3 Headliners (1 per day or stage)
  • 6 Sub-Headliners (2 per day or stage)
  • 12 Lower line artists (4 per day or stage)
  • 1 Beverage Brand/Sponsor
  • 1 Food Brand Sponsor
  • 1 Location (must be a real location on Earth that can accommodate 10K plus people)
  • 1 TBD/WILDCARD/OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS
You can draft any slot at any time, but you must designate them into the category at the time of the draft and they will stay there (no moving from headliner to sub-headliner, etc…)

Artist Rules:
  • Any artist living or dead is eligible to be drafted
  • When you draft your artist, you can choose from which era you are drafting them (you must specify a year)
  • The artist transports to present day at the level they performed at in that era, BUT
  • They will only be able to play songs released up to and including that year
  • For example, if you draft “Blur, 1999”, you get them at the level they were at in that year but they cannot play any songs from albums released after that date.
  • Once a MUSICIAN (not artist) is drafted, they are at your festival ONLY.
  • For example, if “Blur, 1999” is drafted, all artists in Blur at that time cannot be drafted – so Gorillaz are off the table as Damon Albarn has already committed to another festival.

Headliner/Sub-Headliner Guardrails
  • While you can choose the year/era of performance, their status as a headliner/subheadliner etc… will be judged with historical context
  • For example, you can’t draft “Blur, 1991” and put them on the bottom of your lineup because they were only playing small clubs at that time. (I went back on forth on this, part of me thinks it would be really cool to have this sort of “I was there” moment on our festival lineups but the reality is every band was a “lower tier” band at some point starting out, so it could just become a mess of picking huge bands in years before they were big).
  • I don’t really want to get too into the weeds into what a headliner vs a sub-headliner vs a lower tier act is, please just try to respect that we’re drafting bands that could fill stadiums as headliners, mid-tier stages and smaller arenas as sub-headliners and clubs and smaller venues as lower tier bands. If you want to err one way or the other, do it towards pushing a band up the lineup vs. trying to pass off a major act as a lower tier.

I'd wait for Fall. I may be heading for music overload as it is.
Agreed that rationally, it's probably better to wait, I just have the itch.

There's a cream for that, you know.

Are we doing a mid-term 2024 music draft this year?
Are you starting it Monday or me?

M - 1
T, W, T, F - 2
S, S - -1
M, T, W, T -2
F - 1

Format (20 picks) has always made sense to me for this one but I'm awful at following through on drafts lately aside from the upcoming, legendary, music festival draft.

You can run the draft if it'll keep you engaged. I'll handle the playlist.

The year end 2023 draft thread had a good @ list.
