Why do you feel this topic will attract one group over the other?
It's the definition of voluntary response bias. Those that feel more strongly about a topic are more likely to respond. The FFA crowd that doesn't play fantasy football anymore likes to wear it like a badge of honor.

yes and have played every year for...... 20 or so years?

but never for big money, or high stakes. topped out at 2 leagues. i don't gamble or obsess over it.

i love the NFL. playing fantasy football keeps me reading articles and following news that may otherwise go by the board.
I had a very similar experience and outlook until I bowed out three years ago.  At the time, I liked how it got me more involved in teams and games I wouldn't have otherwise paid much attention to.  Now I think of it more like why I stopped using Facebook not too long after starting - I realized I was wasting my time logging in and reading posts from people I didn't really care enough about to keep in touch with otherwise.

but..... what are you doing on the toilet at work tho?

4 leagues here.  Three are in person drafts, one online.  I could do without the live redraft one, but it has a lot of good friends for now

I understand voluntary response bias.  I just don't think that one group feels more strongly about it than another here.  This badge of honor thing could be applied to like 5 people here.

True. You'd almost think in a place like this that the people who were passionate about playing FF would be, at the very least, equal to the number of people passionate about not playing it.

I quit a few years ago when NCAA started questioning officials about it.  Decided to quit so I could move up.  Had 4 teams in 3 leagues at that time.

Even so, you'd get a significantly different result if you posted this poll in the shark pool.

Was for 11 years, retired about 9 years ago and never looked back. The game is SO much better sans FF.

That said, I've thought about coming out of retirement for one season for the past couple of years just to see if I still got it, but I haven't pulled the trigger. I think if I do, I'll hate football for that whole season and its a risk I'm just not willing to take.

Beer thread league! Winner gets 11 boxes of beer.

I gave up maybe 8 years ago. Even the last 2-3 years weren’t all that fun.  I lost interest in the NFL about the same time. I watch maybe 2 games a year, usually Steelers-Browns games.

There is a notable increase during the football season regarding my interactions with my brother.

This is the main reason I play.

That and the finishing in the money every year.

My prediction would have been around 75-80%, and the fact that this is in the FFA rather than the Shark Pool brings that number south a little. I wasn't expecting all the comments about how relieved people are about being out of FF or the people who are just waiting for current obligations to die so that they can get out. Voluntary response bias probably explains a lot of that, but it's still interesting.

Looks like I'm going to win one of my opening games, but I'm sure to lose the other.  In that one, I'm up against Tyreek Brees and Conner. Good luck, right? LOL.

I retired about 10 years ago after winning the Super Bowl. I am the John Elway of the league.

I enjoy my weekends and watching football much more now than when I played fantasy. I doubt I will ever be lured out of retirement.

the game has passed you by old-timer, they will likely want you back for some dead money in the league.

I found my NFL viewing dropped probably somewhere around 80% once I quit. I tend to watch more college now. Even then, it's only if there aren't things to do outside the house. It really was a win/win. It was definitely an enjoyable hobby for several years. It just got old like many things do.

Don't bother.  Stay retired

Wingnut, truly a sight to behold. A man beaten. The once great champion... now a study in mopishness. No longer the victory hungry stallion we've raced so many times before, but a pathetic, washed up, aged ex-champion.

In another thread, someone was trying to make a point by indicating that 99% of users on this forum are involved in Fantasy Football. He good-naturedly admitted he was just making that number up, but it did make me curious.

Wow, Im not surprised.  Par for the course for the FFA, some strange birds in here.

Only in this forum would a good number of people who were passionate enough to join a forum dedicated to fantasy football would no longer be playing.

I burned out on it as well.  I was down to one league last year and ended up with more important matters right at draft night.  Someone helped me draft and I could've still played but instead gave them the spot.

It ended being refreshing -- not using all that time every week for months on something that you could argue is a little ridiculous in the end -- and so this year I declined and am happy I did so.

IMO, if more people took just one year off, god forbid, they would see that it can be an amazing waste of time and dedication.  Play with your kids more with that time or read a book or learn something new...or take a hike...anything...so much better off.

This forum has nothing to do with Fantasy Football. Why would you expect people that posted here for years and have made some good iFriends to suddenly abandon this forum just because they gave up FF? That seems way more strange than what you just stated.
