I was going to also question the intelligence of these people along with a query on what they tell their boss when they request time off to do this, but I think I'll just keep my old man opinions to myself and yell at some clouds later.

Local news showed some footage of interviews there.  The best was this middle-aged dude who went there alone and was saying how he doubted he'd see anything but that he brought 40 beers and will probably just end up lying down somewhere and see some stars.  

So there was indeed one genius out there.
