My projections

SLB Calvin Pace 35 tackles 6 sacks

MLB Karlos Dansby 75 tackles 1 sack

WLB Orlando Huff 55 tackles 4 sacks

Dansby probably most tackles

Pace most sacks

Huff combination of both Could be the the overall fantasy producer from the LBer position.

What do you guys think?

I think Gerald Hayes starts at MLB this season if healthy.
I second the motion.I believe Calvin Pace will be a backup and Dansby goes back to his natural posion, which is the strong-side. I think they will give every possible opportunity for G. Hayes to flourish this year at MLB....Huff is just a stop-gap for the team due to the fact he is not the long-term answer.SLB DansbyMLB HayesWLB Huff/Blackstock (has an outside chance)There is my take on the situation.RAPTURE

Hayes has a decent chance at starting in the middle, but I wouldn't get too excited over his prospects. At best, Hayes will be a 2-down LB (w/Dansby and either Darling or Blackstock in the nickle). Worse yet, Hayes probably won't be on the field much if the Cards again run their hybrid 5-2 D from last year.I also believe Darling has a legit shot at starting at WLB even the coaching staff has already said Huff is leading the fight. Blackstock is an amazing athlete who is simply missing "something". I know the Cards had Blackstock play a little weakside last year, but I think he's best suited to play the strongside as Danby's backup.

If Pace plays more than 10% of the Cards snaps in '06, I'd be shocked. The guy could not even touch the field when playing his natural DE position...how can he expect to contribute consistently while learning a brand new role?!?!

SLB: Dansby

MLB: Hayes

WLB: Huff

If I were the coach <cough><cough>...

SLB: Blackstock

MLB: Dansby

WLB: Darling

The latest I've seen which seems to match RapturePublished Mon Jul 3 10:43:00 a.m. ET 2006

(Rotoworld) Second-year LB Darryl Blackstock is competing for the starting weak-side linebacker job in Arizona.

Impact: A player we were high on coming out of Virginia, Blackstock had a quiet rookie year on the strong-side. He's competing with incumbent Orlando Huff for a starting job this year and is worth keeping an eye on in IDP leagues.

.......and might I add this

Foxsports.com calls Gerald Hayes (knee surgery) the Cardinals' starting middle linebacker.

Incumbent starter James Darling is still on the roster, so this may be a bit premature. Hayes should definitely be a competitor, though, if he's healthy in training camp. Jul. 2 - 6:48 pm et

I like my prediction thus far!

RAPTURE (A happy Gerald Hayes owner)

Cardinals | Blackstock expected to be a solid backup

Fri, 21 Jul 2006 19:27:45 -0700

Kate Brandt, of AZCardinals.com, reports Arizona Cardinals LB Darryl Blackstock is expected to be a solid backup linebacker for the team. Blackstock saw action in 14 games last season with one start.

FWIW,

Dansby is not in training camp. He is back down in the valley, nursing his injuries. He has been cleared to play, but he is choosing not to.

Denny Green has moved Calvin Pace up to the starting rotation for Strong Side Backer. If/when Dansby gets back, they (MJ & Bickley) were speculating that he would move to WLB.

Denny is less than pleased with Dansby's approach to practice and especially playing hurt. Denny is very pleased with Pace's efforts and is rewarding him for it. Whether this will stick or not, I don't know.

I heard this report on Xtra Sports 910 this morning on my way to work.

Cardinals | Dansby may need to find new position when he returnsWed, 9 Aug 2006 11:22:52 -0700Kent Somers, of the Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby (thumb) is not likely to be the starting strong side linebacker in 2006, with DL/LB Calvin Pace being the favorite to win that job. The coaching staff may shift Dansby over to weak side linebacker, where he would compete for a starting job with LB Orlando Huff, the incumbent starter. There is still no timetable on Dansby's recovery from thumb surgery.

I noticed Mitchell didn't even show up in the EOTG article, after Norton had him projected as the most valuable LB for Az prior to last season.

Rapture and I would deserve a high-five for making the right call ...Save for our pimping Hayes ...

Cardinals | Dansby to have big toe looked at by specialist

Published Sat Aug 12 2:44:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports Arizona Cardinals LB Karlos Dansby (toe) will travel to Alabama Sunday, Aug. 13, to have his sore big toe looked at by a specialist, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Dansby will see Dr. Angus McBryde, a member of Dr. James Andrews' sports medicine center. The team hopes he can avoid surgery, as physical therapy has helped the problem some.

first i heard that darling was in front of hayes... i knew that was a possibility, but haven't seen much clarity in print, yet... who started in the game?

http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/teams/cardinals/index.html

"James Darling is holding off Gerald Hayes at middle linebacker, at least so far. Darling is a smart veteran who runs well, but Hayes is considerably bigger and is known as a fierce hitter. Hayes didn't play last year because of a knee injury, and he's still trying to scrape the rust away. Even if Darling doesn't start, he'll playing a role in nickel situations and on special teams."
