Arizona lowers Boldin demand, per ESPN (1 Viewer)

The Arizona Cardinals have reduced their trade demands for disgruntled receiver Anquan Boldin to a second-round pick in Saturday's draft and other considerations and are talking to at least three teams who seem to be newly interested, two sources told EPSN's Sal Paolantonio on Friday.

The New York Jets, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles have expressed interest given the downgraded demands from a first- and third-round pick, the sources said.

Cardinals general manager Rod Graves and coach Ken Whisenhunt jhad repeatedly emphasized at the team's pre-draft news conference Tuesday that they would be happy to keep Boldin and eventually try to sign him to a new contract.

"Quite a few teams have called but we have no offers from those teams," Graves said Tuesday. "Anything can evolve from this point through draft day so that's where it is right now."

Boldin expressed extreme displeasure with his contract in last season's training camp, accusing Cardinals management of failing to follow through on a promise of a new deal and vowing never to re-sign with Arizona.

Still, he went on to have his third Pro Bowl season in six years in the NFL as the Cardinals advanced to the Super Bowl.

"I didn't say a trade was necessary," Boldin said last week. "I just want something to get resolved. It's something that's gone on long enough."

Information from ESPN's Sal Paolantonio and The Associated Press was used in this report.
Very interesting stuff. As an Eagles fan, I would fall over myself if he went to the Giants for a 2nd round pick. He is ABSOLUTELY worth our 2nd round pick without hesitation. The question is, what does "other considerations" mean? If it's a high pick in 2010, then this isn't as big a change in demands as the article would have us believe.

Smart move by AZ... Before, most teams thought he was too expensive. Now, they might create a bidding war with more teams involved

If I'm the Eagles, I offer this year's 2nd and next year's 2nd rounder without hesitation.

If the "other considerations" aren't out of line, this deal will get done. No doubt about it.

It's hard to get full value for veterans, & this proves it. Boldin for a 2nd+ is a steal. Somebody will step up at that price.

Has to be some major considerations in addition to the second rounder.

Arizona would be incredibly stupid to deal him for that little. If they do, I hope Angelo is scrambling for a steal again  On the field, Boldin has #$%^s (not hands  ) of steel and Cutler to Boldin would be a thing of beauty....

I wonder how Jerry Jones will feel about his Roy Williams deal if Boldin goes for anything less than a 1st and 3rd

It is amazing to me that Boldin isn't worth a late 1st.

I really think that teams just don't have the guts. I think they just go with the safe route, and have a fear of giving up their draft picks. it's NOT a money thing, you knoow how many teams can afford Boldin? A dozen, at least.

Agree with all the posters. Boldin for a 2nd is a steal. Gonzo just moved for a 2nd and at this point in their careers Boldin >> Gonzo. There will be a number of teams in the mix for him but given that the Eagles have a number of picks and a real need (IMO) I think they will step up and get it done.

Roy Williams?????????????????????????????

Any value the Browns were hoping to get out of moving Braylon just went up in smoke with this announcement.

They'd be wise to work something with their high 2nd rounder and pass at Crabtree at #5. Could either have a Braylon/Boldin tandem or move Bray for peanuts at that point.

There must be some real BS out there about Boldin or his contract demands

1) Boldin to the Eagles would make them a favorite in the NL East (I think and some NFL types agree if you watch ESPN)

2) The Eagles have I think a later first round pick (not sure, twenty-something) WTH could they get WR wise or any position that would immediately impact THIS year's team more than Boldin?

I would prefer (as would Warner and Fitzgerald) that the Cardinals NOT trade him but I think the reality of the situation is that the team has decided it won't pay him what he is worth and doesn't want to hear crap all year or have him sit out so they need to get what they can and move on (at least Breaston is a pretty decent WR2 for them). But hard to believe they can't get a 1st rounder for a WR that talented who would help so many potential playoff teams

If DET is set on drafting Stafford (I really hope they don't personally), they could offer up the 2.01 pick... I know they have SOOOOOO many other holes to fill (especially on defense), and you may just think I'm a crazy DET fan who loves drafting WR's, but think how much easier of a time Stafford will have adjusting to the NFL if he were throwing to Calvin and Boldin... Life as a DET QB is hard enough, let alone a rookie QB in DET.... Let's give him some help!!

I'm starting to think there is something wrong with Boldin medically. Chronic problems of some sort maybe, it's total speculation on my part with NO basis. However, he's worth way more then a 2nd.

Roy Williams?????????????????????????????
I said it's hard, not impossible. I believe most people think Dallas overpaid for Roy (I know I do). The price Boldin will likely go for will prove it.

How about Tashard Choice + a pick for Boldin?
Yeah, I proposed something along those lines in another thread. It gives Arizona the 2nd they're looking for & their probable starting RB to boot. Maybe Jerry thinks he needs a 3-headed monster again, but I'd be all over this if I were Dallas' GM.

...becuase it kills our chances to extend Ware. We only have 10 million in cap room. Ware is going to sign for a boatload of cash.

The only teams that make any sense to me are those who are looking for WR 1 type. This would be Tennesse, Jacksonville, Philly, NYG's, Baltimore as the prime locations.

What happened to the Baltimore deal? I thought they had already offered their one?
That's what I'm having trouble understanding.
Wasn't Baltimore's offer including either Heap or McGahee (or both)? Maybe Arizona doesn't want to take either of them, and perhaps Baltimore can't acquire and pay Boldin with both Heap and McGahee still on the roster. This would be a weak explanation, but otherwise, I can't understand it either.

GOTTA LOVE ESPN RUMORSRod Graves was just on KTAR (in Arizona) and said they would not trade him if nobody met the original asking price.
never believe a GM. If he lowers the asking price, he gets bidders...The more bidders the hiher the price. It's like an auction.Boldin is out.

Sal P is pimping the hell out of this story on local Philly radio. 950 keeps breaking in with the "news" and that has everyone saying we better get him. You have to love pre-draft craziness!

I think it's more like never believe ESPN as thier track record breaking stories is horrible and thats putting it nicely.

lol Baltimores offer was we will give you a tight end that cannot stay healthy that we are paying good money to for no reason (Todd Heap) and a former pro-bowl running back that also cannot stay healthy that rarely started last season that we are paying 9 million a season to (Willis McGahee) oh and a 1st rounder. It was a complete low ball offer that fantasy players wouldn't even take. So basically, fill your salary cap up with our garbage instead of resigning Boldin yourself and we'll give you a number 1 pick for you to also sign for big bucks as well. If they took this deal it would probably be cheaper for them to just resign Boldin and have the probowl WR.As a Giants fan, Jerry Reece needs to stop what he's doing RIGHT NOW, and get on his phone. I saw the previous post from another Giants fan that said we should give them hixon and 2nd, that would be great but I don't think the Cardinals are in the market for more receivers... their pretty stocked. As much as I like having KiWi as a reserve DE, I would have no problem pulling the trigger on that deal. KiWi and a 2nd rounder for Boldin is an absolute steal in my opinion, Boldin has got a great team attitude and works harder then anybody in the NFL, he would fit in great with the Giants team philosophy. Please Jerry, please... Side note... If the Eagles get him I'll be really annoyed... if he doesn't go the Giants, I'm hoping he stays out of the NFC East. But that's not really a major concern of mine because I can't remember the Eagles actually pulling the trigger on any trade for a big time receiver, their names are always in the pot but I see they are just shooting blanks out of their gun.

I doubt he goes for a 2nd. This is a smart move - lower the asking price, get more teams in, get a war going. If it doesn't go high enough, keep him.
