ARod's 500th (1 Viewer)

Most, if not all, of you are aware of this, but I just like this kind of ####.

Rule 10.23 (d) states: "All performances in the completion of a suspended game shall be considered as occurring on the original date of the game."

ARod will be on deck when the suspended June 28th game v. O's resumes. He steps up and hits a dinger, it's his 499th and the shot he hit v. Royals Wednesday night becomes his 500th.

He apparently has that Royal home run ball in his possession.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled program.

He basically has one at bat to hit his home run as the game is already in the 8th inning. The game was suspended with 2 outs in the 8th inning and A-Rod on deck. With the Yanks being the road team, he at least will have an AB.

A question I always wondered about in these types of situations is what would happen if a player from a team involved in a suspended game was traded away. As an example, say the Yankees traded away Abreau for Andruw Jones. Jones was not on the Yankees roster in June when the game was played. Would he be allowed to take Abreau's spot in the lineup?

If not, would the Braves have to send Abreau back to the Yankees to complete the game? Or would the Yanks just be out of luck and have to use someone else as a substitute for Abreau?

Wow, that is some good #### there...I am spending the day finding this answer...I did find that a home run was not credited to a player who hit a walk off if the batters run wasn't need to win the game, prior to 1920.

Pretty sure some of this stuff happened in the Pine Tar game.

Rule 4.12 ©: A suspended game shall be resumed at the exact point of suspension of the original game. The completion of a suspended game is a continuation of the original game. The lineup and batting order of both teams shall be exactly the same as the lineup and batting order at the moment of suspension, subject to the rules governing substitution. Any player may be replaced by a player who had not been in the game prior to the suspension. No player removed before the suspension may be returned to the lineup.

A player who was not with the club when the game was suspended may be used as a substitute, even if he has taken the place of a player no longer with the club who would not have been eligible because he had been removed from the lineup before the game was suspended.

simple question: WHat was it that happened that they suspended the game rather than calling it? The game was tied and then the Yanks took the lead in the top of the 8th when they couldn't play anymore?

Before this year, if the same thing occurred then the Orioles wouldve won (because they didnt get a chance to bat in the bottom of the 8th and they had the lead in the last full inning). Thankfully they changed that rule this offseason. But since Baltimore didnt bat its not fair so they suspended the game.

From what I read, they changed the rule in 1980 not last year.LINK

I distinctly remember the articles in the newspaper the next day were saying they changed the rule last year.

If you're Joe Torre, who do you "start" here?

EDIT: Looks like Myers. Frightening that he's one of the better guys in the Yankees' bullpen this year.

So that means the "gift wrapped" fraud of a win happened in June so the Yankees have a 2 game losing streak. Not like the Orioles have ever been involved in a game like this with the Yankees before.
