Arthur Smith money daydream thread (1 Viewer)

Arthur Smith has always been a hard worker that rarely used his Dad's name.
The former college OL, was a gopher for Joe Gibbs, and...Titans told stories of the TE asst coach doing so many errands and grunt work, that no one could believe he was wealthy.

It's unclear how much money he has. His father gave the kids a "set for life" amount and supposedly they all did wonderfully with investments and whatever else.

Arthur's father has passed away. Rest in peace to Fred Smith, an incredible businessman, from Memphis.

He sold his share of the Commanders to Snyder- he was one of those that wanted out- when stuff was hitting the fan.

His net worth in 2024 was reported as 5.3 billion and 12.1 billion.

Soooo....what do you do if you're Arthur?

I thought this might be an interesting daydream discussion for this downtime til training camp.

I truly don't think if any head coach or offensive coordinator that had been tasked with working with Tannehill, Ridder, old Matt Ryan, old Russ Wilson and Justin Fields could have done much better then he has.

I truly don't understand why people can't understand that he's had to work with a poo poo platter of QB's when they judge him. The degree of difficulty he's had to work with has been off the charts extreme.

I guess if I was him, I would try to just buy an NFL team and install myself as GM and HC.
Why did his dad never buy controlling interest of an NFL team? Did he not have enough liquidity or would the league not approve him for some reason, like still holding a grudge on him for his USFL days?

Anyway if money was an issue in buying controlling interest for Fred things just got a lot worse for Arthur because he's got 9 brothers and sisters plus who knows how many grandkids among them and who knows what else how Fred's money is going to likely get split up among them.

So I know you are probably saying what you are in jeset, but a Arthur's probably got small minority investment money of an NFL team money, is likely several billion short of having controlling interest kind of money

Crazy how sports team have just shot up in value. I went to the same high school as Jerry Jones kids, Jerry JR was a grade above me, and when Jerry Sr bought the team he came to the school and gave a little speech about buying the team. I remember being in class later that day and one of my teachers was saying that buying a pro sports team was bad investment and I was I ended up arguing with the teacher asking them "what are you talking about"? I'd been looking at this stuff for years and had yet to see a team actually decline in value. 35+ years later and I still don't know what that teacher was thinking.

I actually never understood why so many ultra billionaires, guys like Bezos, don't buy professional sports teams.

If you think of the Lakers sale that just occurred...you probably read that the S&P outperformed the compound appreciation from the time Jerry Buss bought them to present day. And that's the Lakers.

The NFL is different IMO - though how often do teams go up for sale. But as it relates to other leagues...it's probably more of a flex. I suspect they have better investment opportunities,.

Move to UAE. Can get a golden visa through investment. Tech/finance/crypto hub ripe for making that visa investment. No income tax, no capital gains tax. One of the best privatized health care systems in the world. No real stringent residency requirements, so I can still buy a home/homes elsewhere around the world and don't have to spend much of my time there if I'd rather be in Monaco, the Alps, Montana, etc.

For those who are, for whatever reason, morally objectionable to UAE; you can get more or less the same set up minus world class medical care in St. Kitts and Nevis.

But who really puts much time into thinking of such things.....

So being an offensive coordinator is just a hobby for this man? Like playing Madden irl. Probly makes it easier to go for it on 4th down.
Nah.
When his identity was sort of exposed when he was with the Titans, he had done so much grunt work that some refused to believe it.

Some with the Redskins (whatever name they were then) didn't even know. He has got so much coffee and stuff.and stayed tireless hours doing whatever with film etc for Gibbs. IIRC this was after being an OL at UNC and then while everyone else went and got jobs, he worked as some sort of gopher there.

There's not a lot of "rich boy spoiling" to playing OL and doing all the grunt work he did for years.

I remember Fred saying something like absolutely no one on the WFT asked him if Arthur should be given a prominent position.

The story of Fred gambling to keep his company afloat- he was somewhat ashamed of that, somewhat second chance vibe. He was an impeccable man after that. Recently Albert Breer said that when Smith asked to get out of his ownership everyone knew Snyder was guilty. He loved (part) owning a team and if this known good guy wanted out that was a huge red flag to everyone. Investigators stepped things up and Snyder got on a boat and...he was that good of a guy that everyone just knew once he stepped away.

Anyway, Arthur loves football and always wanted to coach and clearly "climbing the mountain from the bottom" didn't deter him. There's no way he put decades of his life into this and is going to treat it like Madden
