At what point in a season should a FF team rebuild? (1 Viewer)

I know this question is very relative:

Record

Points scored

Points against

Team(young/old)

Other teams records

But when do you decide it is time to trade some of your players for either younger players or draft picks in a Dynasty League?

Personally, I don't rebuild in a season until I realistically know I cannot make the playoffs. But with some teams I have with lots of Vets...I hold out hope longer for those teams.

I think you answered your own question already(at least IMO): If you have an aging team, I'd start seriously looking at starting the process as soon as I was mathematically eliminated. Probably sooner if I knew I was staying alive with smoke and mirrors.

This is a good questions...I started the year with what I thought was a competitive team (warner, AP, Addai, Moreno, Ocho as core) but no bench. My team started off strong but seemed to be the one team that everyone carreers against. My currentl record is 2-6 with very little chance of making the playoff's. I just pulled off a trade that will send warner and addai for a first round pick in next years draft. I made a trade earlier in the year that got me another 1rst rounder netting me 3 first round picks next year. I believe with the core of AP/Moreno and Ocho I can build myself into a competitive team next year. I should mention that this is a hybrid dynasty where you keep 1qb, 2rb, 2wr and 1 flex (non rb). Last years first round had ray rice, vincent jackson, deshon jackson, LT etc on the board so I should be able to pick up 3 quality starters.

... and does the potential incoming draft class sway your decision at all?
whether to rebuild? :no:How to rebuild? :shrug:All too often people don't even consider rebuilding by trading for 2nd year to 4th year players who will be better next year than this year. For example, you could have gotten Sydney Rice, Matt Schaub, Steve Smith (NYG), Heath Miller and maybe Vincent Jackson last year cheaper than a 1st round pick in many leagues. I decide to rebuild when I consider myself out of contention. Sometimes that's before the season, sometimes that's right before the playoffs.

No. So much of a player's value is attached to team/supporting cast as well as their own ability to make the pro transition that to me, the value of pick 1.01, 1.09, 3.06 are all theoretical until the draft happens. Every so often, you see a college stud (Adrian Peterson, Charles Rodgers, etc.) coming from SO far away that you can factor that into the value of 1.01 but that's about it.

Examples of players like that are Felix Jones, Jamaal Charles, Johny Knox, Jonathan Stewart....players that have not really exploded yet and are not established because of committee situations or lack of opportunities or injuries, but coudl blossom when healthy and given the opportunities, which will come soon. Those guys can be gotten from teams in contention and they will be cheaper right now since they have no body of work in terms of stud production. Last year that list included Joe Flacco.

To some degree, I'm always rebuilding. I'm always looking to get younger and better with minimal cost to my starting lineup. As for when I start getting serious about a rebuild? Well, there's often not much point in rebuilding too early in the season, because a lot of guys don't really fancy themselves front-runners yet and they aren't quite ready to start mortgaging the future.

I agree with the sentiment that I'm always looking to improve my team.

I had a team that I felt was championship competitive coming into the season, but it was a bit short on depth and a bit long in the tooth. I have worked through the season to make constant improvements to that team while getting younger and deeper and still maintaining my championship contention status. I am always looking to improve my team which, I guess, necessitates never having to rebuild it.

The only time I consider out-and-out rebuilding a team is if I'm taking over a poor dynasty team, otherwise I simply tweak it
