AT40 - This Week in 1977 (1 Viewer)

39. "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" - Peter Frampton

Not the worst Stevie rip-off, but in hindsight it was apparent that Frampton was running out of gas. God bless him, though - he caught one of the biggest waves in pop history and rode it

37. "Here You Come Again" - Dolly Parton

Dolly kicks every kind of ###, and this was written by Barry Mann/Cynthia Weill to boot.

38. "Thunder In My Heart" - Leo Sayer

I had forgotten all about this one til just now. Savage strings.
I've worn my hair at least forty different ways in my time - Leo Sayer makes me embarrassed for all of them. And his song choice masks his talent like his coiffro mocks hair.

36. "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Crafts" - Carpenters

This may be the strangest song by a big recording act in pop history. Richard Carpenter's "alien" voice just makes it all crazier. Bizarre.

35. "Back In Love Again" - LTD

Jeffrey Osbourne was the best male singer of the 70s and this band was - by far - the best I've ever seen in concert. This record has turned into a dentist-office song now, but I would strongly suggest looking up LTD's back catalogue

33. "The King Is Gone" - Ronnie McDowell

One of the bazillion Elvis tributes that came out on his death. It sounds cheesy as hell now - not so much because of his voice, but the lyrics are awful

30. "Slip Sliding Away" - Paul Simon

The lyrics are just too cute, as are most of Paul's, and the music ain't exciting enough to lift this record up for me

29. "My Fair Share" - Seals & Croft

Another I had completely forgotten about. Hard to get whiter than these guys, but they harmonize well and do some interesting things with time changes

27. "Keep It Coming Love" - KC & The Sunshine Band

KC's first Top 10 hit - according to Kasem - to not go #1.

26. "Come Sail Away" - Styx

One of the reasons I finally got tired of Classic Rock radio. Nothing against this record, or this band, in particular, but.......God,

25. "Isn't It Time" - Babies

This is a pretty damned good record - a stripped-down version of the stuff at #26 and sung much better

24 "Daybreak" - Barry Manilow

I like some of Manilow's songs. This isn't one of them. Plus, it's a freaking LIVE recording.  :wall:

I have listened to a lot of The Babys' stuff, and this is one of my least favorites.  I thought maybe it was a Jonathan Cain joint, but he didn't join until '79.

23. "Send In The Clowns" - Judy Collins

Christ, we're going down the same whitebread rabbit hole we did a couple of weeks ago aren't we?

22. "It's So Easy" - Linda Rondstat

I love Linda, but she was a jackhammer trying to drive a tack into a wall sometimes. This one isn't the worst ("Ooh Baby, Baby" is), but slow down woman

20 "We Just Disagree" - Dave Mason

I like this record, especially since he wasn't trying for the 40-million-th time to cover "All Along The Watchtower"

19. "Dusik" - Brick

This was a really good band that got lost in the shuffle. I'm not crazy about this particular song, though.

17. "You Make Loving Fun" - Fleetwood Mac

I was a teenager when they hit and didn't really like them. As I got older, I started to appreciate them more. They weren't playing to me back then. This is probably the best record that'll show in this countdown and by FM's secret weapon - Christine McVie

21. "Cold As Ice" - Foreigner

I mean, it is what it is right? I ate this #### up back then.
Bought this album cold because prog multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Ian McDonald was on it. One-listen major ugh, put it on the livingroom pile (had a 3story practice house for the bands i managed). Couple months later it was the most-played disc in the house. Double ugh.

15 "Theme From Star Wars" - I dunno; seems like the disco version, but it's mashed up with the John Williams cut

My last major coke binge I can recall was in a room that "Star Rider" was played over & over

11. "Blue Bayou" - Linda Rondstat

God, no. Her "come with may" is awful. I love Linda, but this does every kind of disservice to Roy Orbison

STILL cant listen to Stones 'Some Girls" from the next year for a similar reason. Somebody spiked the punch w LSD @ a house/yard wedding i went to in Santa Fe. My gf had never even smoked pot and badded out bad. The bride was my best friend so i didnt want to just scoot and the host wouldnt stop playing the just-out 'Some Girls' and it was all such a disaster. One of my heaviest associations.

16 "Help Is On Its Way" - Little River Band

These guys were REALLY good.
Saw these guys on their first tour - it may have been one of their first American shows at the Chapel on the campus of Wash U in St. Louis - we had a #### load of weed and were right up front and we just walked up on stage during the show and handed them lit doobies. The look on their face was priceless as they passed them around during the show. Loved - "It's a Long Way There" - great song. Sweet guitar work.

10. "We're All Alone" - Rita Coolidge\

Lordamighty, I have been in love with this woman for 45 years. She could sing random tax laws and I wouldn't care. Sing it, Delta Lady

9. "How Deep Is Your Love" - Bee Gees

This record, back in the 70s, could get you - male, female, trans, pick one - laid with almost no effort
