Atlanta @ Detroit - 4:00 EST (1 Viewer)

anyone have a link to the game? NFLN is blacking it out in Detroit and making us wait to watch the local replay at 8...garbage.

Nice TD run for Turner, even if it was against Detroit...

Speaking of which, up until that play, the Detroit Def seemed to be playing a lot better than last year. Of course, one qtr of play in the first pre-season game doesn't tell us squat...

Kevin Smith - 3 rushes for 12 yards and 2 receptions for 27 yards. 39 total yards on 5 touches in one qrtr....

Impressive...

EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVE (even against Detroit)....

Michael Turner - 6 carries for 63 yards and a TD in the 1st qrtr...

Nice stone hands Colbert.

Stafford threw a beautiful ball about 25 yards that hit Colbert right in the hands... bounce.

All of Stafford's "misses" have been catchable balls. Even that last one where there was coverage. He put it exactly where it needed to be for his receiver to get it.

But his receiver was Keary Colbert.

I'm seeing exactly what you guys are. I'm a Calvin owner in a dynasty league and I have been pleasantly surprised by how good Stafford looks in there today. I'm not calling him a future HOF but he has a nice presece to him and his arm is one of the better one's in the league.

Kind of looks like Carson Palmer in the pocket.

Norwood is getting a ton of carries in traditional RB looks. This is just silly to me, I love him as a RB but his skill set is specialized and should be used as such. No reason to pound him up the middle 20 times in a preseason game.

Just hoping Stafford wins the starting job... depends on if the Lions want to take him out the gate slowly. Personally, I think Stafford gives them a better chance to win than CPep.

I was pretty impressed how Stafford came out firing the ball. Accurate, and confident. If he was nervous, you couldn't tell and that says a lot from a #1 pick. Colbeart looked liked a crack head two days into detox out there.

I think Culpepper is the obvious start as long as he is decent looking in the preseason. First there is always a chance he returns to a high level- and that can mean trading him for help in the offseason (and Detroit needs a lot of help) and sitting for a year never hurts a QB it can only help. It seems like a win win there. If Culpepper sucks its easy to have a short leash and you can choose your spots to put your guys in (week 8 after the bye and you have STL and SEA as first tests instead of having to play MIN, WAS, Chi, and PIT in the first 6 games).

I take it all back. :goodposting: Welcome to the NFL. Welcome to the Lions.

Oops, Stafford pick. It wasn't a dumb decision though... the LB made an excellent jump on the ball, and Stafford was under lots of pressure, threw to his safety valve.

Also, TE should have come back to the ball, he stood there like an idiot while the LB jumped infront.

Gorgeous throw there for a TD. Stands in the pocket and dropped it perfectly into coverage.

ETA: Took a big hit right as he threw it too.

I'm one ot take preseason with a grain of salt but Matt Stafford just did something on an NFL level. He throws a pick going to other way, shakes it off, and marches...and I do mean marches his team down the field and throws a beautiful 30 yard pass right into the hands of the receiver, it was a big time NFL throw and he had a guy draped on him or hitting him as soon as he released it...I like what I am seeing here and I have been a Stafford hater...guy has the goods it looks like.

Not to mention having one guy drop 4 catchable passes. kid could have really went into to dump.

Ervin and Brown showing some real speed to the corners. ATL seems to be mailing it in right now as well but impressive nonetheless.

I agree with the assessment. He is showing poise in the pocket.. granted its 2nd stringers... I would not be surprised to see Stafford start the next preseason just to see how he fares against a fresh set of 1st string defenders.... I like his pocket poise... but the question for me is whether or not the Oline can give him some protection throughout 4 qtrs....In addition, if Detroit can't fix that sieve of a defense... I would really like to see Stafford air the ball all day to Johnson on the deep throw... he sure throws em perty.

I'm glad you can admit this kind of stuff MOP...kudos to you. I remember debating him with you.

Like I've been saying since the draft (pats back)...Stafford is great for CJ. He can make any throw, will lean on CJ, and is not afraid to throw into double coverage. And we all know 2 will not always be enough to cover CJ.

I was very impressed with Stafford's pocket awareness/presence. We all knew he had the arm, but his calmness in the pocket really stood out to me. He didn't get "happy feet" while standing in there trying to pick out his target. He made good reads and found the open receiver. Too bad the open receiver happened to be Colbert.

He looks to have a bright future

I strongly suspect that the lions were line up incorrectly on Turner's TD run. No DC in their right mind is going to put 3 LBs inside the tackles and have the DT head up on the guard. That alignment allow the guard to take out two players on hid pull block. Just an observation, not meant to as a knock on Turner.

Yup, nice to see you are coming to the light that is Stafford MOP! I know I've been heavily involved in Stafford debates as well. This guy is going to be a STUD in the NFL.
