This is a post for owners of the 2007 waiver wire WR gems, namely: Berrian, Cotchery, Colston, Jennings. (Honorable mention: Furrey)

If you are relying on any of these guys as a starter, you likely didn't draft too well (or deep) at WR and they have been a god send. But are they the real deal or an early season band-aid?

I have Colston as my WR2, he's helped carry my team to #1, but I can't help but feel that one of these weeks the smoke-and-mirrors will crumble and the curtain will be pulled back.

For those counting on them for starter production, are you looking to move them and sell high or ride them out?

I'm personally looking to hold but am actively trying to trade for a vet WR to push Colston to WR3. I know I would feel a whole lot more comfortable. Are others seeking for a better starter, or maybe just building depth?

For non-owners, are you looking to acquire one of the wunderkinds? What are you looking to deal?

I love RB depth, but I traded some away for another receiver in a start 3 league. Now I can put 3 pretty good WRs out there even when one is on bye. After the byes I'll probably just beat myself up each week trying to play matchups and guess which 3 to start and get it wrong half the time.

Part of the reason I was leery depending on one of the WW wonders wasn't just a dropoff in production and byes, but having another WR to trot out there in case of injury.

After my draft, I was solid with RB depth but really only 2-deep with quality WR (in a start-3WR league). To this point, I'd picked up Cotchery, Furrey and now Bryant Johnson (TBD if he has much of an impact).

Anyway, to answer your question, I packaged one of these "Du Jour" WR's with some of my RB depth to upgrade at WR (Cotch + T Jones for T Owens + PIT DST) to shore up my starting WRs and address a weakness (my Def). I was a bit surprised, but the guy asked for Cotchery early in the negotiation, like he had been targetting him. He preferred him over Furrey / Rod Smith -- so much so that he was even willing to back away from DeShaun Foster and 'settle' with Thomas Jones, as long as he got Jerricho.

These kind of guys are great to have in a start 3WR league, or to get you through your particular bye-week needs. My impression with the younger WW WR's though, is that their value peaks after ~3 weeks or so, so if you have intentions of using them to trade & upgrade, use them for a week or two to get you through a tight spot, then try to sell high sell high sell high and move on to maximize your value.

I drafted Jennings and started him for the first time last week. I think he'll be in my lineup whenever the matchup is favorable. I picked up Cotchery earlier this year and have yet to start him. My other WRs are Chad (who I just traded away for Boldin), Javon Walker, Reggie Wayne and Moose, so I'm not really sweating that position too much.

I have Jennings and Colston to go along with Holt and Evans. I too played Jennings for the first time last week as a WR2, and I was not disappointed. Holt, obviously, is locked in at WR1, but I do not see a problem rotating Evans, Jennings, or Colston in at WR2 depending on whoever has the best matchup.

Hm

drafted

Fitzgerald and Walker as my #1 and #2 ( start 2 wrs )

yet I am using both berrian and jennings for match ups.

i drafted well, this season is just bad in terms of productivity from past "studs". Its an odd season to say the least

For the third straight week, I started Jennings last week. My other WRs of note are A Johnson, D Mason, and Reg Brown.

I plan to keep jennings as my 3rd WR in this 12 player keeper.

Also, I picked up Cotchery earlier, but traded him in a deal to get McNair (start 2QB league) after week 2 (I did not think he could keep up that pace).

I think this is an excellent point to make. You may be starting one of the DeJour WRs, but it may have nothing to do with drafting. Injuries happen. As for how I am handling my DeJour pickups. I tried to trade Berrian and my 2007 2nd rounder for Chambers and his 2007 1st rounder, but the league got upset and I think we are either retracting the trade or I'm just gonna get screwed out of the pick portion of the deal. I useColston on occassion (those occassions being when he doesn't score dammit), but I have taken a wait and see approach as to whether or not he will be one of my keepers.I'm very excited about both of them for the rest of the year personally.

In my 28-round keeper league with no waiver wire, I drafted Jennings, Colston, and Berrian. They rotate with S. Moss, Toomer, and Keyshawn depending on matchup (I can start three, and Colston does not qualify at TE in this league.) It enabled me to trade Fitz (pre-injury) for RB help. I'll be keeping all three next year and loading up on RBs and QBs early in the draft.

In my 22-round redraft league with FAAB, I drafted Jennings in the 16th and he's been an every-week starter since Week 2, thanks to some of my higher picks not working out.

I think all three of them, while they'll have occasional weeks where they do little (as is the case with most WRs), are the real deal.
