Personally, in 10 years of auctions I haven't spent more than 20% at most since I like to build decent depth. However, all that has gotten me is into the playoffs...never a championship. So this year I think I'm gonna try to get one of the top 3 RBS (SA, LT, LJ) and I'm gonna be prepared to drop 50% to get one. Most of the time in my league there is always guys that drop 50% of their cap on one stud RB.

I leaned that this is the best approach in an auction league but you need to be able to get value on the other positions and work the waiver wire in order to build a solid team.I won a championship a few years ago in a very competitive league by spending almost 50% of my cap on Faulk. I have made the playoffs every year except the first year and have reached the championship game twice. I do not advocate this strategy every year BUT if you know you can get value later in the draft then go ahead and spend.
Some people get 1 super stud or 2 and the rest of their players suck. Some like to get a lot of average players and have a lot of depth. I like to have 4-5 studs (20-50) even if I have no depth at all so the most I wll use is 25-28% but if I can get a top 3 RB for less than 37%, I'm all for it.
