"Bad" picks tuned good (1 Viewer)

Am interested in whether some people ran into a situation where they made a pick, regretted it, and it worked out anyways. We always talk about busts we avoided (and many times are validated) and sleepers or WW gems who work out, but thought this topic was worth discussing too.

For example, I am in a Keep 3 and was very fortunate to have Ray Rice, Foster and AJ. Basically, as long as I do not get cute, I should have a play off team if I draft correctly. With my first two picks, I nab Witten and Wells. I should be fine at RB, now time to concentrate on WRs. There is a run on QBs in round two and three and I panic and grab Eli. OK, not a very good move, but now I can concentrate on WRs. Well, in the fourth (really like the 7th when considering keepers), Benson is staring at me and I end up taking him. One, this is right as the B. Scott hype is bubbling and two, now I am stuck with Steve Smith (Car) as my #2 WR. WR quality thinned out so quickly, I got caught, and to make matters worse, it was so bad, I grabbed Winslow with the next pick. I can start two flex players, but I am literally at this point with 4 RBs, 2 TEs to my only 2 WRs. I grab Mike Thomas in the 7th and some crap behind him. Basically, I screwed up a peanut butter and jelly sandwich...

I thought I collected many good players, but royally messed up at WR in a draft that should have been a gimme. I am certainly not out of the woods, but up until yesterday, if I had to do it again, I would not have taken Benson, Manning and Smith, yet I ended up with the 7th best score ever in our 7 year league. This is not meant to be a bragging thread, just one where all heck broke loose, and it worked out just fine.

Hated my pick of Joe Flacco in Round 5 of my superflex league (can start 2 QBs). Really wanted Freeman or Stafford or Matt Ryan or Sam Bradford or Eli Manning, but they all went within the first 8 picks of the 5th round, and I picked 5.9.

But Flacco looked great against a tough PIT D. Pair him with Romo and I am looking pretty good at QB.

I forgot to submit my lineup in a FBG Staff league so I missed out on Aaron Rodgers (my 1st round pick) and his big game on Thursday :bag: . So I submitted my lineup yesterday and had to roll with my backup....Ryan Fitzpatrick. Turned out okay. ;)

Yeah, in my keeper league, I got bailed out a bit on Steve Smith. In the offseason I traded my 2nd round pick for Steve Smith. It was a giant mistake since it meant I had to keep him over Steve Johnson (which could still turn out badly).

So I wasn't too excited about that, to the point where SS was on my bench in favor of Jacoby Ford.

Luckily I'll win still, but yesterday made me feel a WHOLE lot better about the trade.

In the Survivor league 9 here on FBG, I was unhappy to end up with Cam Newton at QB (especially considering my #2 is Garrard). Between him and Steve Smith, I may pull out ahead of my bad first round pick, Arian Foster.

Good pick there...I rode Fitzpatrick all season long last year, and thought it could only be a one year thing with him. My regret would be passing on him as a backup in all three of my leagues...

I had regrets about my #3 Mike Thomas in PPR after Garrard was dumped minutes before the regular season, but he was one of only four WR's to catch 8 balls this week. McCown targeted him on 12 of his 24 attempts. Granted, Thomas only had a pathetic 6.9 ypc, but still looking like he's gonna get targeted an obscene amount in J-Ville.
