Bahamas Nassau/Marsh Harbour advice needed (1 Viewer)

My son and I are going down for a Boy Scouts trip in July (Seabase, for those of you familiar).

We're staying overnight one night on the front end of the trip in Marsh Harbour. Anything to see or do for an evening for me and my 15 y.o.?

I have to scramble a bit to re-book my flight and I can go through Nassau where it gets us there at about 2:30 PM on Thursday and then flies out again at 1:00 PM on Friday. The big question is - is it worth it to stay over one night in Nassau? Or should I just take an easier/cheaper route home through somewhere like Ft Lauderdale?

How hard is it to get used to driving on the left side of the road?

Copying and pasting from my response in an earlier thread for Nassau. I bolded the two points of relevance:

The Fish Fry suggestion turned out to be a hit. I suggest repeating our itinerary for a day if you are staying at Atlantis: Take the water taxi to Nassau mid-morning. Go down Bay Street past the Straw Market and turn right down this little alley and take the stairs up to the Tropicana. This is a little dive bar with cheap drinks and cold beer. We're also pretty sure we saw the owner make a significant drug transaction and it seemed like his sweetheart of a wife was taking bets. Sit on the balcony and take down a few Sands beers. I like it better than Kalik. Then, go across the street and hop on the number 10 bus to Fish Fry. Get off the bus and go to the end of the strip to a place called Eddie's, where everything is $2.25. Say hi to Shorty for me. Have a few more cold beers and then leave and head back up the street. Go to Oh Andros and order the lobster and grouper combo. Get double rice and peas with some plantains as the side. This was one of the best meals I've had in a decade. We went to Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill while we were down there, too, and I'd pick Oh Andros every day of the week. You'll likely be the only tourists there.
Straw Market is basically the local bazaar place with people peddling their wares. Tourist trappy place but kids might dig it.

Fish Fry: Eat dinner somewhere here. I highlighted the one place I went, but this is the place the locals go to eat.

So here's the short story of my Bahamas experience:

There's nothing to do in Marsh Harbour.

Hope Town is a great little spot with an amazing beach.

So is Guana.

Nassau is too crowded and The Atlantis is the world's biggest tourist trap. It's what would happen if Disney decided to open a Caribbean themed casino in Vegas. :yucky:
