As part of the requests that teams routinely make to the league office in connection with the preparation of a given year’s slate of games, the Ravens have asked not to be sent to Pittsburgh during prime time, according to Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun.
The Steelers have hosted the Ravens at night in three of the past four years, including each of the past two.
Also, the Steelers beat the Ravens at Heinz Field in the AFC title game, which kicked off in the evening.
There has been speculation that the Steelers will host the Ravens during the regular-season opener played the Thursday night after Labor Day.
(We think it will be Tennessee at Pittsburgh to start the season.)
The extent to which the NFL considers or grants such requests isn’t known.
Last year, the Cowboys asked to close out their home schedule with the Ravens, since it was the final regular-season game to be played at Texas Stadium.
And the Ravens thumped them.
So maybe the better approach is to not make special scheduling requests. Or, at a minimum, to make sure no one blabs about the requests.
