Ravens RB Jamal Lewis (back) is still listed as questionable for Week 2 vs. Oakland. He did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday. The Ravens hope to have him ready to practice on Friday.

Footballguys:

*** Thursday Update *** RB Jamal Lewis (BAL) practiced on Thursday and is expected to play this weekend.

I'll take footballguys word over anything CBS says but was just wondering if there is anything correct about the CBSsportsline info.....other then they are playing Oakland in Week 2.

Article when the wed report was first filed. Certainly implies Lewis practiced since Franklin is the only one specifically noted as not practicing, but that is obviously reading between the lines and may not be the case.Thursday update still seems positive:

Friday update, (see "TRAINING ROOM" about 3/4 down through the article) again seems very positive, but no real details.

Aaron wilson is a beat reporter covering the ravens for a suburban paper, and he is usually pretty reliable. The Baltimore Sun has done little more than regurgitate the official injury report, so we don't have much more information than what is linked above.

:goodposting: Thank's for the information!

I'll one up MB's opinion of Aaron Wilson and say he's pretty much the man to go to for news about the Ravens. The Baltimore Sun's Ravens coverage sucks with a passion.

Here's a Link to a transcript of a chat room session Aaron did on Wed night.

Here's the relevant part concerning Jamal Lewis, which basically says Jamal is fine and will play.

TL24x7: Aaron, Jamal is generally very open and upfront. This hip flexor, does it appear to be something that he'll be plagued with all season?|

Aaron Wilson: I really doubt it. He didn't have any setbacks against the Buccaneers. Remember, one of his final runs was a 27-yarder and he had a burst on that carry despite carrying a full workload in the first half. Obviously, they scaled him back.

He finished with 18 carries and he seemed fine afterward as well as today.

Yes, he's questionable on the initial injury report, but they listed everyone that way. Everyone practiced except for Aubrayo Franklin.

Could he have a setback? Certainly so, but how can you predict when he'll get hurt again.

Brian Billick is basically following the stringent NFL injury report rules. If you don't list everyone who's even slightly hurt, even an upset stomach, you can get in trouble. The league, and the gamblers who rely on accurate info, take this very seriously.

You're right, I undersold Wilson's coverage.

Great link on the chat transcript - is that a weekly thing? If so, when does he do it?

Looks like he's going to be doing it every Wed at 9pm.Here's the thread I found the chat in. Chat Thread I think you just have to join the forums to get into the chat.

It's hosted by http://www.profootball24x7.com/ (of which I am not affiliated), which is run by Tony Lombardi. They used to be www.ravens24x7.com.

The site has some pretty good info and articles but it's really cluttered and not intuitive to navigate.

Enjoy and go Ravens!!!

related question: is musa the real backup to own? yes, anderson got more carries thhan musa last week, but it was well after the game was in hand (mop up). and musa was in on 3rd downs and red zone packages, so it would seem that he's the TRUE jamal handcuff if you have to choose between MA and MS.

thoughts?

why would the 3rd stringer get more carries than the 2nd stringer in any situation?
i see your point but maybe because the 3rd stringer's skill set was more suited to grinding out the clock and mopping up an easily-won game than to playing for actual points/to gain a lead.

i've watched a lot of football in my years and i can't really recall a time when the coach threw the 3rd stringer there when #2 wasn't hurt.

why not just name him the #2 then?

Also, billick said during an interview this week that musa was cramping up so they went more to anderson late. He said all three cramped up to some extent so they tried to use them all.

well that's what i'm asking, furley/knotts/incredible mr.limpet -- all-time underrated "bad sunday afternoon movie," by the way -- if the #2 or #3 distinction holds true here. e.g. rotoworld seems to think musa is the guy to own: "Mike Anderson had more carries, but only in mop-up duty. Smith was the man on third-downs early in the game, including some plays in the red zone. Jamal Lewis owners should keep him." add to that the fact that baltimore has a tradition of "growing" productive guys who are perceived to be nothing more than 3rd down backs into pretty good fantasy producers: priest, chester....and now maybe musa? billick praised him a lot in thue pre-season, and with anderson's age/wear and tear, musa MIGHT be the guy who emerges should jamal get hurt, regardless of what the "official" depth chart says.

well Mike Anderson can play FB and is the savvy vet. Musa looked like a gem this preseason. He's been hurt more often than healthy(or so it seems) his whole career. Ravens probably want to know if they have a gem on their bench or if he was just a typical preseason darling

Billick did say if Jamal went down Mike is the guy, semi-late in preseasonI think there's a that was then this is now Q going on. YOU are in a rush to figure this out but Billick really isn't. Just sit tight

This is very very common and not so much wrong info by either. In the official injury report submitted to the NFL a team is required to note if a player missed any part of practice. Typically there's individual drills and 11 on 11 drills. Some coaches value either one as a big deal and in their opinion consider it NOT practicing if they miss any part of it. This is along the lines of teaching the younger players you have to practice if you want to play...right attitude etc. If a player missed 11 on 11, you could very well hear a coach say he missed practice even though he did the individual drills. If a site reports "playerZ missed practice" because the coach said so, how's that wrong on their part? Silly them believing the coach?

People in FF always get too excited about tuesday injury reports. Swelling and rest heals alot of things by Friday. Whether that truly happens or they're just resting a vet, you'll never truly know just consider tuesday a "banged up" report and Friday an injury report. It works far better that way

I know this has morphed into a "Musa Smith handcuff" thread, but any more info on if JLew is going to start and get some carries this weekend against the anemic Raiders?

Ravens | J. Lewis practices Friday, expected to play

Fri, 15 Sep 2006 14:54:12 -0700

Jamison Hensley, of the Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens RB Jamal Lewis (hip) practiced Friday, Sept. 15, and is expected to play in Week 2. Lewis was upgraded from questionable to probable.

why would the 3rd stringer get more carries than the 2nd stringer in any situation?
(clears throat) As I was saying, Furley...ROTOWORLD:

Mike Anderson rushed for 34-yard touchdown on his only play Sunday. Anderson has put up decent numbers in back-to-back weeks, but only playing in garbage time. Musa Smith is the team's backup to Jamal Lewis.

Musa Smith rushed seven times for 24 yards and caught two passes for 30 yards in Week 2. A solid effort by Jamal Lewis' backup. He scored a short-yardage TD early, but the play was overturned by a penalty.

pVVn3d:bag:though isn't Musa now the #2 and Anderson the #3. i'm grasping at straws here.

can anyone in baltimore say what the opinion is right now on lewis?

it seems like he was pretty unimpressive yesterday.

does anyone think musa smith might take the job this year?

i still don't understand why billick is so loyal to a guy who admitted he dogged it last year.

In what round did you draft Musa?
