Tell me about them. One of my co-workers has a serious man crush on the lead singer, calling him(Jesse something?) one of the "top 3 lyricists of all time".

He had me listen to one of the songs. It seems very depressing. Is it emo? Note: I couldn't pick 'emo' songs out of a line up. Don't know it.

They are pretty much emo and just ok. They had 1 album that was pretty good, I think Jesus is the name of their best song. They are nothing special and looking them up, they haven't released anything in 5 years.

The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me is a truly great rock album. If you don't like that one there's not much more to look into.

They're labeled as emo because of their first album...everything after that is pretty experimental and usually pretty hard. Jesse Lacey has a powerful screaming voice but uses it sparingly. In the upper echelon as far as lyrics go for the kind of music they make. I still have about ten of their songs in my rotation, good to get you pumped up.

Almost textbook emo rock from the mid-aughts. I liked them, and I suppose if I was 10-15 years younger I might have thought he was a brilliant lyricist. Deja Entendu, The Devil...., and Daisy all had some good songs. Should have been bigger than My Chemical Romance or Fall Out Buy but they never had the hit they needed, They made a big sonic shift on Daisy - I felt like they were ripping off mclusky of all people - and I think it kilt them.

"Emo" is a broad brush.. some people talk about guys like Fugazi as the original emo, and that sounds NOTHING like Brand New.. Weezer comes along, Jimmy Eat World, people were calling that emo.. and then all these dudes showed up who were doing a sometimes-whiny/sometimes-screamy thing. It's a good label for it. Brand New was my personal fave of the genre.
