Banks not allowing your cash into your account. (1 Viewer)

I used to have to show my photo ID when depositing more that $10k cash for my business ... which I understand. Only happened a few times a year.

Recently my bank changed policy and makes me show my photo ID for ANY cash deposit. WTF? Am I a money laundering suspect when I deposit $300?

So now I just use the night drop box ... even if the bank is open.

I can shove as much cash in there as I want and they have no idea who put it there. ... and I can launder as much money as I want.
Any deposit in excess of $10k, even thru the night drop, requires the bank to file a CTR.  They will likely contact you at some point if these transactions become common place.  They have the ability to list depositor as unknown, but with more of these transactions, they should reach out to understand what you are doing.

How do they not know who put it in there? Don’t you use a deposit ticket?
Nope, I just put cash in there and cross my fingers.

Of course I use a deposit ticket ... but they can't pin the crime on me personally since the deposit could have been made by:

my wife, an employee, a relative, Justin Bieber, a monkey in a business suit, Chemical X, etc. (which I would trust in that order)

Had I gone into the bank, they take my id and there's no denying who laundered the $10k.

Really?  Your bank doesn't have security cameras?  I'd find another bank then.

I always liked the scam of putting an out of order sign over the night box with an arrow to deposit into your makeshift box next to it.

ouch, behind monkey in a business suit.  though, not sure what other types of suit a monkey would wear.

They're really low tech which keeps bank fees down ... instead of cameras they have a live sketch artist but he's so slow that I'm gone before he finishes drawing a circle for my head.

  ... or I'll wear a hoodie, ski mask, Chemical X monkey mask. Have you never seen a convenience store robbery? All the cool kids are doing it.

You want to freak some people out without breaking the law? Walk around in public with a ski mask on. Burger King, bank ATM, drug store, etc.

True story ... One rainy night I unlocked the drawer to put my fat stacks in and there was someone elses deposit stuck to the inside of the drawer.

It didn't slide down because of the plastic deposit bag was sticky when wet.

I pulled it out to see who's it was, a local used car dealer, and noticed a whopping $75 cash listed with some checks. Not that I would have kept it but just to see how much they could have lost if someone dishonest got there before me.

Not likely one would have got away with snatching it with the cameras present but you really need to be sure that your deposit falls after closing the door.
