Barber and Jones likely to miss Sunday (1 Viewer)

There's also the possibility that he is active and plays but very little. I *think* that's happened before.

We didn't know for sure he wasn't playing Monday till Monday, now we know by Wednesday that Barber is out? Yeah, think I will wait and see on this one.

Shouldering the loan? As in the stadium financing? That's a lot to shoulder...I'm not sure Choice is ready for that kind of responsibility yet.

I drafted Choice in rd 12 and dropped after week 1. Guess who I am playing this week ? Yup, the guy who picked him up last week.

couple points here..1) it was stated that there was still some swelling

2)didn't the coach or Jones state last week that if Barber was active, it would not be for limited work load.

With Felix out though, this might change and Barber could see limited action..IMO

That didn't take long

ESPN's Michael Smith reports that the Cowboys "feel really good" about Marion Barber's (quadriceps) status for Week 4.

Smith reiterates that Barber was close to playing Monday night and wanted to badly, but the Cowboys exercised caution with Felix Jones and Tashard Choice ready to go. They need Barber now that Jones (PCL sprain) is set to miss 1-2 weeks. MBIII may be "eased" back in with Choice playing well, but we'd still expect him to receive 15-18 touches and any goal-line chances.

barber wanted back in becasue he didn't want his touches cut by Felix going nuts!

IF Choice goes nuts then Dallas has possibly a 3 headed MOnster to feed.

I expect 1 of the 3 to be gone after this season. I would think they keep Felix n Choice - becasue Felix is their best runner but gets injured alot and Choice is a great back up / COP guy as well. Barber has the highest Salary and teams would have interest - as he is a do it all back - recieving , running , and GL.

Choice was my last-round pick in most drafts. That also meant he was first on the chopping block for my Week 2 claims, but I came back for him the following week... now starting him for 3 teams this week. Anyway. If Barber is out, this looks like a 20+ touch game for Choice. And if Barber is at "75%" or whatever, still 15+ touches for Choice.

This is exactly what I think happens. Barber will be active simply because they need 2 RBs active on gameday. But he won't be right physically until after the bye. So Choice gets the load, just like he did at the end of last season.

I just snagged Choice off waivers and my opponent has Barber. So I definitely have interest in where this is going. The way I see it, the practice reports for the end of this week will be telling. If Barber practices, even on a limited basis, my thoughts are he will try and tough it out.

Who does Dallas have behind Choice on the depth chart? If Dallas thought both Barber and Jones were going to be out, I would almost think they would grab someone else for depth.

Here's a different perspective..

I picked Choice in a couple leagues for 1/3rd my bidding bux not for a week 4 start but for the long-term potential. I'm betting that Barber re-injures himself somewhere down the line and obviously the sooner the better, so personally I'm hoping he rushes back before he's ready and causes more serious damage..

I hope Barber plays this weekend, and gives us Choice owners a better shot at a real home stretch terror and fantasy playoff nightmare for opposing owners.

Last year Pierre Thomas took me from needing a miracle to make the playoffs to the doorstep of the league championship (damn you Eli)

I hate to wish injury on a guy, but I'm hoping to catch the wave again. 30 carries for MB3 this week!

You would think so. I believe they have a rb on their practice squad that they like but they are probably waiting to see how Barber feels before activating him.

Dallas has a RB on the practice squad. Its possible that they'd call him up. But to do so, they'd have to cut or IR someone else. No one is hurt badly enough to IR at the moment, so they'd have to cut someone. The most likely guy I could think for that is a backup safety who got signed around the start of the season. Assuming they make no roster moves, the only other RB on the roster is FB Deon Andersen. I guess he could fill in if its an emergency, but he's no ball carrier. This is why I expect Barber to be active on gameday.

What's Choice worth to you MB/Felix owners? I can't seem to give the guy away to the point I'd rather just sit him on my bench for the rest of the season.

Chauncey Washington was signed to their parctice squad after Barber went down.

If you have the room to stash Choice for the whole year, I feel it's worth doing so. Even after Barber and Jones come back, the odds of one of them getting injured seem pretty high. If both of them are (like right now and end of last year) you've got yourself a #1 RB.

How much do you value a 1 or 2 week play?
I don't know, but if I was the MB/Felix owner I know I'd want him on my team. And worst case he's a 1-2 week play, best case MB and Felix go down again to injury (which is very likely).

When I buy insurance I never really expect to cash in. That's why its called "insurance". They guys that own Barber/Jones should be interested for this reason. He's more valuable to them then the Choice owners looking for a 1-2 week play.

I don't see it as a 1 to 2 week play, but secures that you have a fantasy play with the cowboy backfield every week. Knowing that this can be a lingering injury, if I were a barber owner, I'd want Choice. So I'm trying to sell him for a pick next year (the layaway plan), but I can't get the Barber owner to sniff at it.

I highly doubt he plays, but found this interesting:

When asked if he would play Sunday at Denver, Jones said, "We'll see," however a source has said Jones will miss the game because of a sprained posterior ligament in his left knee. It's possible he could miss more time and not return until after the Oct. 18 bye.

"I can use my two feet," Jones said. "That's good enough, right?"
News is there is no swelling on the knee, and he is not limping. But, I still doubt he plays this week or next, there's just no need against KC next week, and though DEN has been playing tough defense, I don't think they'll rush Jones back.Barber meanwhile reportedly has some swelling, and while he wants to play, likely won't either.

Choice it will be until the BYE week is my guess.

FWIW, yesterday I traded Choice to the MB and Felix owner for Bernard Berrian straight up.

Though they were trying to sign him prior to the injury.

I made the decision of dropping Santana Moss for Choice before the Panthers game. Glad I did now.

I don't have a lot to chime in with at this point.

Barber was limited again in practice today, but "less" limited than he had been last week. Can't be sure how to measure that though.

Barber has said that he wants to play, just as he did last week, but that's never anything to bank on. Felix is out- mark that.

And as some have suggested, he will probably be out until after the bye week (5).

Wade wavered when asked about bringing Chauncey Washington up from the practice squad, and noted that FB Deon Anderson isn't really a RB.

Of course, we all know how coy Wade can be. Anderson had several carries in the last preseason game when both Barber and Jones were held out.

If I learn anything more I'll be sure to return.

Here's a nice little link on the subject:

As expected, Marion Barber was limited in Wednesday's practice but he did more than he did a week ago, according to Wade Phillips. Felix Jones did not practice with his sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Phillips said he was "optimistic" Barber could play against Denver, but he acknowledged the situation at running back is "tenuous." There is a chance the team could call up Chauncey Washington from the practice squad to be used in an emergency offensively and on special teams.

"We've still got a couple of practices," Phillips said on Barber's availability. "I think tomorrow's practice will tell a lot."

17 years living in North Texas and my gut is Barber starts. Stuff is fed to writers to throw off teams in preparing. I predict Barber will be listed as Probable or maybe a disguised Questionable on Friday but will start and play most downs- he is the superior blocker in the backfield and was sorely missed Monday night

I drafted Choice in my leagues, mostly for longer term potential and because they're PPR. Am a bit surprised that MBIII and Felix could already be missing whole games, but will be starting Choice in both if I hear Barber is limited at all this week.

Back to clip for a second, Schefter said there is "no question" Choice shoulders the load.

My sense is that around here people are pretty high on Schefter's contacts/insights/reliability. Is he the type of person to unleash a "no question" if there are indeed questions?

I'm guessing right now, until we hear different, that Choice is the #1 with MBIII available for limited duty to give Choice a breather now and then. Choice will get any GL carries.

if there isn't definitive news by noon sunday, I'm going to bench Choice AND Barber to plug in Julius Jones.

never thought I'd say that!! Jones was tops of my "first cut" list early on. glad I didn't.

Shefter may have great contacts, but it doesnt take much to realize Choice is going to be the guy this week. Its not a question. If you follow the Cowboys closely, its clear as day whats going to happen. The only question is whether or not Barber is healthy enough to be active and play in an emergency (Choice gets hurt). If so, he may take a couple of snaps every now and then. If he's not, then Dallas has to make a roster move to get another RB on the 53 man roster. That won't likely happen until Saturday or possibly Sunday.

If it makes you feel any better, I did the same thing with Coffee. :goodposting: And now back to your regularly scheduled topic.
