Bonds was worth more to the Giants that year than Pujols to the Cardinals. Sheff really shouldn't even be in the discussion since RBIs was the only category he bested both Bonds and Pujols in.

i can see an argument either way.

Bonds numbers and Pujols numbers that year were very comaparable.

They both got on base an almost identical number of times.

Pretty hard to knock in runs when you get walked all the time...

Bonds: 148 BB (61 were intentional)

Pujols: 79 BB

The right man won the MVP award...

take RBIs out of the picture and count total times on base. its pretty darn close.

Cold hard stats say Bonds wins. But by that measure, Hanley Ramirez is this year's NL MVP.
how do cold hard stats say Bonds?IMO cold hard stats say flip a coin.
It is pretty closeBonds 2003 WARP: 12.8, 153 RCPujols 2003 WARP: 12.0, 171 RCturns out Bonds had a slightly better year fielding as a RF than Pujols had as a 1B, but Pujols was slightly better at the plate.
